Principal's Report
Dear families and friends of MPW
Thank you to students and families for their participation in last week’s 3-way conferences. These meetings provide an opportunity for students to celebrate and acknowledge the learning of the first half of the year. I have heard feedback from teachers, parents and even some students on how they have enjoyed talking about their learning this year with their families.
You will have seen we have had to postpone the Trivia Night, as we were unable to get enough tickets sold for 8th August for the night to go ahead. We are hoping interest will be higher for the new date of Saturday 17th October. We have distributed a survey to seek some feedback from families about our fundraising activities, and would appreciate families taking 5 minutes to complete the 4 questions to allow us to plan ahead future events. This will allow us to determine the types of events that the community are able to attend and support, and determine the viability of the Trivia Night being held next term.
Book Week is Coming
Book week commences the week of the 24th August, week 7 of term. The theme this year is “Symphony of Stories”. On Monday 24th August, we kick off Book Week celebrations with our usual Dress Up Day.
Students are encouraged to come to school dressed as a book character or something book related. There will be a special parade held at Assembly where classes will get a chance to come on the stage to share their costumes.
Book Week continues the school’s highlighting of rich literature and love of reading. Students will be able to connect with their favourite book, read it again and recommend it to others. We look forward to students and staff dressing up as their favourite book characters on Monday.

SEDA Basketball Clinics
It has been great to see the students from SEDA College come out to the school again this year to run basketball clinics with students in all year levels. Students are enjoying the additional time having fun outside developing their basketball skills. Thanks to Bree for her organisation of this opportunity for our students as part of our Physical Education program.
School Planning for 2027
It is that time of the year where we will begin to plan for the 2026 school year, offers to our future foundation families have been distributed and acceptances will begin coming in over the next couple of weeks. We have many families excited to be joining the MPW school community and many siblings from our existing families beginning school next year.
To help with planning for 2027, we do ask that if you are planning on your child(ren) not being at Moonee Ponds West next year, that you please complete the form below and return to the office or email to: moonee.ponds.west.ps@education.vic.gov.au
Finally, you may have seen the AEU has proposed another Stop Work Day for schools. This has been set for Wednesday 19th August. I will communicate more details regarding the impact to us closer to the time, for now we just wanted to ensure that families were aware of this date.
