We acknowledge the Wurundjeri Woi Wurrung People of the Kulin nation; past, present and those who will walk with us into the future. We acknowledge the rich and unique cultural and spiritual relationships to the land, waters and seas, educational practices and the hopes of all First Nations Peoples. We do this in the spirit of reconciliation as we move to a place of justice and partnership - together we work, learn, play and care for one another and this land.
Welcome back to Term 2! I hope everyone had a wonderful and relaxing break. I was fortunate to spend some time in Japan with my family, staying with relatives and making some very special memories together.
Thank you to Mrs Hopkins and the entire staff for starting the term off so well whilst I was on Long Service Leave during the first week of term.
We have an exciting and busy term ahead, with many fantastic opportunities for our students. Highlights include the Year 5/6 Camp, the NEVR Concert performance (featuring our senior Highland Dancers and choir), our Mother’s Day Stall, the Prep excursion to Myuna Farm, Winter Interschool Sports, and our Parents and Friends School Disco to finish off the term. It’s shaping up to be a vibrant and engaging term for our whole school community.
With the Year 5/6 Camp beginning tomorrow, there will no doubt be a mix of nerves and excitement for both students and staff tonight. This is all part of the experience, and something we warmly embrace.
Camps are an incredibly important part of our school program. They provide students with opportunities to step outside their comfort zones, build independence, develop resilience, and strengthen friendships. Through shared experiences, challenges, and new environments, students grow not only socially but also emotionally and personally.
At Kalinda, we place a strong value on camps and the role they play in student development. Our comprehensive camp program includes annual camps for students in Years 3 to 6, a Day Camp experience for our Year 2 students, our Japan trip every second year (with the next one coming up this October), and the opportunity for selected students to attend Somers Camp every second year.
These experiences create lasting memories and help shape confident, capable learners.
With the Year 5/6 students attending camp this week, our Friday assembly will be held for Prep to Year 4 students only. This presents a wonderful opportunity for our Year 3/4 students to step into leadership roles and lead the assembly.
Supported by Ms Davies and the Year 3/4 teaching team, students have been working hard to prepare for this special opportunity. We look forward to seeing them build their confidence and showcase their leadership skills in front of their peers.
We are excited to see our students rise to the occasion and take pride in representing their year level.
We are very pleased to welcome Greg Charles to our school community as our new Grounds and Maintenance team member. Greg has already proven to be a fantastic addition to Kalinda, bringing a strong work ethic and great attention to detail in all that he does.
Since joining us, Greg has made a noticeable impact across the school grounds. Our outdoor spaces are looking better and better each week, creating an environment that is both welcoming and enjoyable for our students, staff, and families.
We are grateful to have Greg as part of our team and look forward to the continued improvements he will bring to our school.
