Principal's News

Where every child is known, challenged and supported to be lifelong learners.

Dear Parents, Carers and Friends of St Brigid’s,

What an amazing Term 1 we have had.  A BIG thank you to all the children who have had a wonderful term of learning and building friendships.

School Advisory Council meeting

Our next SAC meeting will be on Wednesday 29th May at 7.00pm in the staffroom. All welcome to attend.

Crossing Guards

Just a reminder to acknowledge our school crossing guards. Please be patient when crossing the road. Wait for them to get into the middle of the road and blow their whistle before moving onto the road. Some cars are not good at slowing down.  We thank Denver and John for keeping us safe!

Lunch time Clubs

Thank you to our ESOs - Glenn, Sigi, Cathryn, Erin and our STEM Teacher Deb, for the wonderful opportunity they give our students each lunch time to participate in clubs. This gives our children the opportunity to spend time inside at lunch, if they are finding lunch time a bit too long.

Thank you for helping keep our school community safe

Please be patient at school, pick up and drop off. We are in a very busy area, which has become even busier with the pool and train station construction. Remember the speed limit is 40 around school zones. Thank you for your patience.  The first three weeks of Term 2 may be even busier with a 3 week 24 hour work prorgram being scheduled for the new Mordialloc Station.

Next term you will notice new banners around our school this term as part of the City of Kingston’s Safe Around Schools campaign.

This campaign starts with a simple message: thank you

This campaign recognises the many drivers in our community who are already doing the right thing: slowing down, stopping at crossings, and taking care around our schools.

You might see messages like this:

  • Thank you for driving safely around our schools
  • Thank you for slowing & stopping
  • Thank you for slowing down. You’re protecting our children.

These are simple reminders that we all play a role in keeping our children, families, and crossing supervisors safe.

Thank you for helping create a safe, calm environment around our school.

Evacuation Practice

As part of our safety processes, we aim to run regular emergency management drills.

On Tuesday, we ran a 'Shelter in Place' drill during class time. Students were to be commended for the way they stopped and listened to instructions. Our pretend scenario was that there was a smoke smell in the area and so we had to stay indoors and close doors and windows. The drill ran for approximately 8 minutes by the time we checked in with all classes and made sure students were accounted for. Teachers had made sure that they had spoken to their classes prior to the drill today to remind them of expectations in an emergency situation, and to let them know that a drill was coming.

Child Safe Standard No. 3

Each term, as a staff we have meetings to go through Child Safe Standards. The motto from MACS is 11 standards in 11 months - This term we have completed 3 of the 11.

Child Safe Standard 3: Children and young people are empowered about their rights, participate in decisions affecting them and are taken seriously.

Please click here for the link to the parent information on Child Safe Standards 3.

Winter Uniform

Now that we are in Autumn we thought it timely to remind families about our Winter Uniform. Winter uniform is worn Terms 2 and 3.  (Note: Foundation to Year 4 Students will be in sport uniform every day from Monday 27 April to Wednesday 6 May due to swimming).

This year, we are moving to a new fabric for our girls pinafores and skirts as the old fabric has now been discontinued. We will have a two year transition with the old pinafores and skirts being phased out at the end of 2027.
