Year 7 Camp

Year 7’s Unforgettable Start to High School
The Year 7 students have had an absolutely fantastic start to their high school journey, embracing every opportunity to set themselves up for success. From the Mini Olympics and Swimming Carnival to the highly anticipated Year 7 camp at Campaspe Downs near Kyneton, their first term has been nothing short of exciting
Campaspe Downs provided the perfect environment for three days of adventure, teamwork, and personal growth. On Monday, students were thrown into the deep end as they engaged in team-building activities designed to help them break the ice, step out of their comfort zones, and forge lifelong friendships. It wasn’t long before the camp was buzzing with laughter, encouragement, and excitement among peers and teachers.
Throughout the camp, students tackled a variety of challenges, ranging from adrenaline-pumping activities to mentally and physically demanding tasks. Whether it was taking a leap of faith, soaring through the air on the giant swing, testing their courage with abseiling, navigating the lake on a canoe, or working together as a team to construct water rafts, every student had a chance to push their limits and discover their strengths! Even with the blistering 35 degree temperatures, their enthusiasm never wavered, and they supported and encouraged each other every step of the way.
By Wednesday, as the buses pulled in to take everyone home, the exhaustion was evident, but so was a strong sense of accomplishment. The students returned not only with incredible memories of camp, but also with newfound resilience, confidence, and a sense of belonging within the GEC community. Camp will no doubt shape their journey and relationships at GEC and beyond, reinforcing the friendships and life lessons that will stay with them for years to come.
It’s safe to say that the Year 7’s have started their high school adventure with energy, determination, and a spirit of camaraderie, setting the tone for an incredible year ahead!
Here’s what some of our Year 7’s have to say about Camp and their activities:
Nina 7A
I had lots of fun at camp!! My favourite activity was Giant Swing because you could do it with a friend and it was really scary, challenging and extremely fun!
Amir 7A
My favourite memory at the Camp was when we did the team challenge (spider web). I arrived at one point where the ball was in front of me waiting for me. People around me jumping to catch it but I’m the one who got it and came back in a safe way.
Freya 7F
Honestly, this was one of the best camps I have ever attended! I enjoyed all the activities and meeting lots of new people.
