On Thursday 14 May, 31 Advanced Science students from the College attended the National Science and Engineering Challenge at Murdoch University. The National Science and Engineering Challenge is a day-long competition designed to provide Year 10 students with a positive experience of science and engineering.

The students were divided into eight groups of between 3 to 4 students per group. Each group then completed either one full-day activity, or two half-day activities competing against seven other schools from Perth.

The students embraced the range of challenges and at lunch time we were placed third due to some excellent results especially the girls in the blue group who won the Confounding Communication activity.  The students continued to demonstrate excellent teamwork and STEM skills and had success in the afternoon with the red group winning the Grab Lab and the pink group winning the Eco-Habitech.

After the Silver group showed off their bridge-building skills the results were announced and St Norbert College placed second – a fantastic effort.  Hopefully the students enjoyed visiting Murdoch University and the excursion gave them some ideas about the Science subjects that they could study in the future.

Thanks to Mr Lewis for driving the bus and accompanying the group.
