Principal's message

Welcome to our latest newsletter.
It has been another busy few weeks at Alvie, with plenty happening both in and out of the classroom.
Students have settled well into the term and are continuing to build on the routines and learning habits established earlier in the year. It has been pleasing to see students becoming more independent in their learning and willing to have a go when faced with new challenges.
Our Mathematics focus continues across the school this term. Students are working on building fluency with key skills and developing confidence in explaining their thinking.
Teachers have been using daily reviews, explicit teaching and hands-on materials to help students practise and strengthen their understanding over time.
Our literacy intervention groups are also now underway. These small group sessions provide additional support for students who require it and are helping us target specific reading and writing needs.
Outside the classroom, students have enjoyed continuing with swimming lessons and our Paddock to Plate program. Both programs provide valuable opportunities for students to learn through experience, develop practical skills and work alongside their peers.
Thank you to everyone who attended our recent Community Lunch. It was wonderful to see families, students and staff come together. Opportunities to connect as a school community are important, and we appreciate everyone who took the time to join us.
Over the coming weeks, Alvie will be participating in a research project with Southern Cross University focused on bush schools and nature-based learning. The project will help researchers better understand how students learn through experiences in natural environments and how schools can effectively support this type of learning. More information, including consent forms, will be provided to families shortly.
As always, thank you for your ongoing support of our school. We are looking forward to another productive few weeks as we move towards the end of the semester.
We have a Facebook page - please be sure to follow us to see the adventures that happen at Alvie!
Bush Play Reminder 🌿
Please send a pair of named gumboots to school for your child.
These can remain at school and will allow students to participate fully in Bush Play activities throughout the year. A little mud is often part of the learning!
Warm regards
