Learning and Teaching

A Spotlight on what is happening in Prep/Year One
Mathematics
Students are learning to develop their understanding of place value. In class, Prep students are exploring numbers 0–20 through counting collections, writing numerals and using tens frames, while Year 1 students are partitioning, representing and renaming numbers to 120 using MAB blocks. This helps students to build confidence with number knowledge and strengthen their understanding of how numbers are organised.
Literacy
Students are learning to construct complete sentences. In class, they are focusing on including a who/what noun and a what doing verb in their writing and applying these skills to recounts. This helps students to build confidence in sentence construction and communicate their ideas clearly.
ConnectEd
Students are learning to understand the concepts of past and present. In class, they are exploring changes in our local community, housing over time and how toys have developed across generations. This helps students to recognise change over time and make connections between the past and present.
Faith
Students are learning about the Last Supper and the importance of sharing meals with family. In class, they are discussing family mealtime traditions and reflecting on their own experiences. This helps students to make connections between faith, family and community.
