Their project, developed over 18 months from Year 6 through to Senior School, supports Prep to Year 2 students whose home language is not English, focusing on language development, confidence and inclusion. After presenting their work across multiple judging components, the team was awarded 2nd place out of 18 international teams.

Special mention to Henry Kang, who did not attend the conference but made valuable contributions to the project this year as a committed team member.

Performing with Passion, Achieving Excellence!

Through exceptional dedication, talent and countless hours of self-directed practice, Year 9 student Sylvie Metz has enjoyed an outstanding year of musical achievement.

In December 2026, she performed as soloist in Vivaldi’s Double Cello Concerto with an ensemble of professional musicians led by Rachael Beesley, Director of the Australian Romantic and Classical Orchestra. She was also selected as a soloist for the Gala Concert of the International Suzuki Festival in April, performing Fauré’s Élégie with associate artist Louisa Breen. Sylvie successfully auditioned for the ACO Academy, an elite week-long program for young musicians aged 12–17, and has been accepted into the Young Mannheim Symphonists, a workshop focused on historically informed performance.

We are incredibly proud of all that Sylvie has accomplished and look forward to following her continued success.

Arvin Yeung’s Table Tennis Achievements

Arvin Yeung has had an outstanding year of table tennis, marked by impressive performances both nationally and internationally. Arvin enjoyed strong results on the national circuit, competing in two Table Tennis Australia (TTA) Tours in Victoria (April) and New South Wales (May), where he secured Silver in the U17 Boys’ Singles and Bronze in the U21 Men’s Singles at both events.

His Silver medal performance at the NSW Tour has also earned him automatic qualification for the Youth Olympic Games Qualification Trial, to be held from Friday 21 to Sunday 23 August.

The winner of this trial will go on to represent Australia at the 2026 Youth Olympic Games in Dakar, Senegal (31 October – 13 November).

Internationally, Arvin represented Australia at the World Table Tennis Youth Contender in Bangkok, where he faced a strong draw against top-ranked players from Taiwan and Singapore, gaining valuable experience at elite level competition.

Year 9 Student Publishes First Novel

Year 9 student Jerome McClimont has published his first book, Echo, a dystopian sci-fi thriller exploring surveillance, identity and reality. The story follows Echo, a boy living in regional Australia who discovers a mysterious television replaying his own life, leading him into a world where he begins to question whether he is being watched.

David Zhu Crowned Victorian School Golf Champion

A special congratulations to David Zhu, who recently competed at the School Sport Victoria Golf Championships. Playing in challenging wet and windy conditions against the best school golfers from across Victoria, David delivered an exceptional performance to win the Victorian School Golf Championship title.

As the youngest competitor in the field, David's achievement is particularly remarkable. His victory has secured him direct selection into the 2026 Victorian State Golf Team, making him the first student selected for the team.

This is an extraordinary accomplishment and one of the most significant individual sporting achievements by a Kilvington student this year. We congratulate David on his dedication, skill and outstanding success.
