Music Notes

It has been a busy end to Term 2 for the Music Department, with five separate performances during the final two weeks of the term, featuring students from almost every year level in the School. Congratulations to all of the students who have performed across these events, and thank you to all of the parents, family and friends who have supported these students by attending one or more of the concerts.
VCE Music Performance Recital
Congratulations to our VCE Unit 3 musicians, who performed in their Semester 1 recital on Wednesday 27 May. The audience was treated to a range of musical styles, and all of the students performed to a high standard that showcased their hard work and dedication.
Years 2 & 3 String Program Concert
The Years 2 & 3 Strings Concert was held on Tuesday 9 June in Dalton Hall. All students in these year levels are given tuition once a week on violin, viola, cello or double bass. The concert gave the performers a chance to demonstrate the skills they have learned in front of a supportive audience of families and teachers.
The audience enjoyed a range of pieces from each year level, as well as some combined items from all of the students. Congratulations to all of the Years 2 and 3 students on their terrific progress, and thank you to our Strings Department staff.
Year 5 Band Concert
The Year 5 Band Concert was held on Thursday 18 June, with an appreciative audience enjoying hearing the progress of our budding band students. As well as performing as a full band, each instrument had the opportunity to perform one of their favourite pieces that they have learnt during the semester.
Congratulations to all of the Year 5 students on their terrific progress, and thank you to our Band Department staff.
Keyboard Collaboration Piano Recital
On Monday, June 15, Kilvington hosted its much-anticipated Keyboard Collaboration Piano Recital, a special event dedicated to the art of ensemble piano playing. Over 50 piano students from ELC to Year 12 took part, performing in duets, trios, and even large group pieces.
The afternoon featured a diverse and entertaining program and was a joyful showcase of teamwork, musicianship, and fun. Congratulations to all of the students who performed, and a special thank you to our Head of Keyboard, Christina Chao, and our other piano teachers.
Winter Concert
Last week, Dalton Hall was filled to capacity for the Winter Concert, celebrating the musical journey of our students in the Junior School through to Year 8.
The large and enthusiastic audience enjoyed performances from more than 120 students in the Year 1 and 2 Choir, Klefs Choir, Intermezzo Suzuki Strings, Junior String Orchestra, Cello Ensemble, Junior Guitar Ensemble, Junior Percussion Ensemble and the Kadenza Concert Band. The concert also provided an opportunity to feature solo performances across a wide range of instruments and styles.
Congratulations to Nicolas Wanless, Daniel Wang, Grace Nguyen, Thomas Amado, Ashlee Chau, Sophie Kennedy, Olive Youn, Lucas Antonoff, Holly Krishchock, and Lili Metz for their wonderful performances.
Well done to all the students who performed in the concert, and thank you to all of the Music staff, especially our Junior School Music Coordinator, Fiona Radford.
Concerto Concert
On Wednesday night, Kilvington hosted our biennial Concerto Concert at the Hawthorn Arts Centre, a vibrant and prestigious performance venue. This year, five concertos were performed alongside performances by our VCE Music Performance students and the Combined Choirs.
The program consisted of several of classical music’s best-known and most-loved composers including Mozart, Grieg, Strauss, Schumann, Vivaldi and Gershwin. The Soloists, Orchestra and Chamber Strings brought each piece to life with their passion and musicality, and the Combined Choirs concluded the night with the powerful Hallelujah Chorus from Handel’s Messiah – arguably one of the most celebrated choral works in history.
Congratulations to all the students who performed, and especially to our featured soloists Henry Hu (piano), Selma Jia (piano), Addison Sey (violin), Jasper Watters (piano) and Thomas Ye (French horn).
Thank you to all the students, families and staff who have supported this event, especially our Head of Performing Arts, Nicole Bull, and Head of Strings, Darko Kolosov.
