In the Moment

It's Everyone's Business
As part of Kilvington’s partnership with Monash University, Year 9 students recently showcased their social enterprise projects at the It's Everyone's Business Expo. Throughout the term, students worked in teams to develop business concepts addressing real-world social challenges, including environmental issues and mental health.
Congratulations to Emily Xu, Mary Deacon, Deeksha Chandra and Alannah Harlowe, who took out the top prize for their enterprise concept ‘The Cultural Kitchen team’, aimed at combating racial discrimination in schools.
Sleepout For a Cause
Last weekend 24 Year 12 students and five staff members took part in Sleepout for a Cause, an overnight experience helping students learn about homelessness and raise vital funds for those in need. In partnership with 300 Blankets, the Year 12 charity partner, the group spent the evening, enjoying a soup kitchen style dinner, baking chocolate chip cookies for 300 Blankets’ Soul Kitchen, partaking in some activities run by 300 Blankets as well as a fun “power of music” activity.
Henry Duncan, community service captain said “The sleepout was a powerful experience that gave me a glimpse of what it might be like to be homeless and helped strengthen my connection with my peers through fun activities.”
Overall we raised an incredible $4636 to support 300 Blankets, making a meaningful impact beyond the classroom.
IDAHOBIT
Senior School students and staff marked IDAHOBIT (International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia, Intersex Discrimination and Transphobia) with a week of activities celebrating inclusion and belonging. A highlight was Kilvington’s inaugural Pride Cup, featuring a staff versus student netball match in support of acceptance and respect for LGBTIQ+ people. The week also included a Rainbow Morning Tea, student mural projects, and the distribution of handmade pride ribbons and stickers by student leaders.
"It was amazing to see Senior School come together in support of those in the LGBTQIA+ and showed the true values of the Kilvington community. The fact that everyone made the time to either go support the pride netball game, write a thoughtful message on the pride posters or even contributing a hand to the mural of hands is a real testament to the supporting and caring nature of every student.” – Henry Duncan, SLC.
Thinking Politically
Well done to our Year 10 ‘Thinking Politically’ class, which recently participated in a Model United Nations Conference with schools across Melbourne, engaging in a day of debate and global problem solving. Representing Fiji, Germany and South Africa, students took on role of UN delegates under theme ‘Building Pathways to Peace.’ They researched countries, delivered position statements and collaborated to develop resolutions. A fantastic opportunity to build skills in public speaking, critical thinking and negotiation while exploring real-world global issues.
Kidpreneur Expo
Year 6 students showcased their creativity, teamwork and entrepreneurial skills at the 2026 Kidpreneur Expo. As part of their study of goods and services, students worked in teams to develop and pitch original business ideas, creating branding, marketing materials and engaging expo displays.
Congratulations to this year’s award winners: Best Overall Business and Best Expo Display – Cakes That Care (Heidi S. and Jasmine L.); Most Creative Business Idea – EVO; Most Original Business – Sustainability Hut; and People’s Choice Award – Meals For Mankind.
An Engaging Discussion for Senior Students
On Friday June 19, Year 11 and 12 students welcomed Senator Michelle Ananda-Rajah and Deputy Prime Minister and Defence Minister Hon. Richard Marles for a thought provoking discussion on civic duty. Both speakers reflected on what inspired them to pursue careers in politics before opening the floor to questions.
Students asked about a range of topics, including Australia’s social landscape, the social media ban, and the dynamics of political teamwork. One moment saw Mr Marles share the impact of visiting a refugee camp in Africa in response to a student's question about his most challenging overseas experience. It was wonderful to see students engaging so thoughtfully and asking questions that reflected curiosity and critical thinking.
