你 好 (ni hao) Foundation, Year 1 and Year 2 families,

This week in Grade 2, our classroom was filled with excitement, curiosity, and wonderful learning moments! Students continued diving into the much-loved novel Fantastic Mr Fox, where we explored how authors and illustrators create suspense and tension to keep readers on the edge of their seats. The students loved discussing the dramatic moments in the story and were eager to share how the illustrations, descriptive language, and clever word choices helped build excitement and mystery. It has been fantastic to see their confidence grow as they justify their thinking and make deeper connections with the text.

In Mathematics, students showed great persistence and enthusiasm as they learnt the compensation strategy for addition. We also revisited the jump and split strategies, with students proudly explaining the different methods they can use to solve problems. Later in the week, the classroom was buzzing as students explored money and discovered many creative ways to make the same amount using different combinations of coins and notes.

During Guided Inquiry, students investigated the important role drain covers play in protecting our waterways and the environment. We explored how rubbish and pollution can travel through drains and impact local creeks, rivers, and oceans. Students were incredibly engaged in discussions about sustainability and brainstormed ways we can all help care for our environment. To showcase their learning, students designed and created their own drain covers with powerful messages encouraging others to protect our waterways.

Have a lovely weekend
