Term 3 

Prep

This term, Prep students will explore the story La Gallinella Rossa (The Little Red Hen). 

Through songs, games, role play and shared reading, they will learn the Italian names for farm animals and practise simple words and phrases from the story. 

Students will join in with repeated expressions, sing Nella Vecchia Fattoria, and continue to build confidence responding to Italian through movement and play. 

Year 1/2

The Year 1/2 students will participate in the story La Macchinetta Rossa (The Little Red Car) and continue to develop their understanding of Italian language and culture. 

Through songs, games, role play and repeated exposure to key vocabulary, they will build confidence using familiar Italian words and phrases. 

The students will learn about famous Italian cities and landmarks, locate them on a map of Italy, and participate in activities that encourage speaking, listening and reading in Italian. They will also enjoy bringing the story to life through puppetry and role play. 

Year 3/4

Year 3/4 students will learn the Days of the week in Italian through fun and engaging speaking, listening, reading and writing activities. 

They will learn to talk about today, yesterday and tomorrow, and use simple sentences to describe their weekly routines. 

Through songs, games and cultural activities, the students will build their confidence using Italian while discovering the stories and connections behind the names of the days. 

Year 5/6

Year 5/6 students will continue to discover Italian language and culture through stories, food traditions and hands-on experiences. 

Inspired by Strega Nona, students will investigate the importance of pasta in Italian culture, research different pasta shapes and their origins, and endeavour to make their chosen pasta shape from scratch by hand. 

Through reading, performing and sharing their learning, students will build confidence in Italian while developing a deeper appreciation of Italian traditions.
