Interschool Sports Grand Finals

Hello Footscray West,

I'm Ky and I'm Seamus. Today we played against St John's in a blockbuster grand final game. 

We came in excited but certainly nervous. We tightened our shoes and listened to Monica's pre-game speech. We welcomed our rivals St John's onto our muddy pitch and started our footy match.

In the first quarter we started strong. Jayden with the first tap in the ruck. Zane was absolutely amazing in the midfield with plenty of possessions, as was Marlo who also kicked 4 goals in the quarter. Great stops from Mandela, Zaida and Seamus in defense, leaving St John's scoreless. Quarter 1 was 39-0 our way. 

The 2nd quarter was more even and St John's kept their head up. Highlights were strong defensive marking from Seb and great rucking from Sudi. There was a great team goal through the middle from defense with a great kick from Ky to Eli to Marlo. Scores at half time were 14-42 our way. 

St John's fought their hardest in the 3rd quarter kicking 17 points to our one clutch goal from Zane right at the end after the siren. In that quarter, there was good running and pressure acts from Marlon, defensive spoils from Seamus and a fantastic strong defensive mark from Zaida. Some great efforts from Coco, Sid and Zoe who always brought a positive attitude. Harvey had some great running through the middle. Good tackling from everybody in the team. 

We were ready to take the match into our own hands in the last quarter and were up by 27 points to start. Some great movement from Maggie, swerving through the players. Seamus saved a clear goal in defense and then Otis kicked a great goal under pressure and another awesome team goal from Marlo to Eli to Jayden who kicked it from a tight angle. Jax was great up forward with a strong contested mark in the goal square. The final scores were 77 to 39. Footscray West just won the grand final. 

A big thanks to Mr. Millar for umpiring the match, Monica for coaching us and Saint John’s for being good sports and to Jesse, Audrey, Roman and families who supported us from the sidelines. We'll now go to Divisionals next Thursday.

Netball

Hi I’m Elsie!

And I’m Abi, and today we played in the girls' netball finals against Footscray North. We were nervous as we lost to them previously, but that didn’t stop us!    

The game started with Footscray North taking the centre pass, but Myra quickly intercepted, which helped us take it down to our ring for Eva to score our first goal!

During the first half, we had amazing intercepts by Rose, Myra, Ava and Poppy, stopping them from scoring goals.

At half time the scores were seven to zero, we were happy to be in the lead but kept our heads in the game. We also made a few changes switching our positions around.

We had the Centre pass in the second half scoring 5 more goals we had many more Intercepts.  

In the end the scores were 12-2 our way. which means…. we made it to divisionals!

Thanks to Carolyn for coaching and umpiring and Footscray North for being good sports. And well done to the team for working together to achieve this great win!
