News and Appreciations

 At the Conclusion of Term

As we reach the end of Semester 1, I would like to acknowledge the outstanding work of our staff and students. Throughout the first two terms, our teaching teams have embraced a number of changes and challenges, particularly the introduction of our Explicit Maths Program. Their commitment to continuous improvement and high-quality teaching has been evident throughout the semester.

Emergency Management Drill

Last Friday morning, we conducted a successful emergency evacuation drill to the oval. Classes moved calmly and efficiently from classrooms and specialist areas, with the entire evacuation completed in a record time of just six minutes. Well done to everyone involved!

Interschool Sports Grand Finals

Last Friday, our school proudly hosted the Girls' Netball and AFL Footy 9s grand finals. Our students were thrilled with the results and represented our district today at the Maribyrnong Division Winter Round Robin competition in Keilor.

Reports from last week's grand finals are included on the Physical Education News page.

Cool for School Incursion

Our whole-school music incursion was a fantastic experience for students from Prep to Year 6. Presenter Marcel expertly combined bass guitar, backing tracks, movement and singing to engage students throughout the performance. It was a wonderful end-of-term experience enjoyed by our entire school community.

Community Use of the Eagle Building

Today, I met with representatives from local basketball and netball organisations to provide an induction ahead of the commencement of regular community use of the Eagle Building from the beginning of Term 3.

A special thank you to our Maintenance Manager, Taleb, for coordinating additional storage and security arrangements to support this initiative. We know many of our current and former students will benefit from access to this outstanding facility each week.

Maribyrnong Divisional Winter Sports Round Robin

Today, our Girls' Netball and AFL Footy 9s premiership teams travelled to the Keilor Sports District to represent our sports district at the Maribyrnong Divisional Winter Round Robin.

As tomorrow's assembly will be shortened, reports from today's event will be shared at our first assembly next term.

School Council Update

Our School Council met on Monday evening.

Key points of discussion included:

Out of School Hours Care Contract

We have partnered with TheirCare since 2019, and this has largely been a positive relationship. However, recent staffing and coordination inconsistencies have prompted School Council to consider whether we should renew our contract with TheirCare or undertake a new tender process.

On Monday, TheirCare CEO Michael Abela provided a comprehensive presentation to Council members. Council will now seek responses to questions raised during discussions and develop a set of expectations to be incorporated into any future contract arrangements.

Parents' Association Evening Disco

It was agreed that the previously proposed date of 23 July would not allow sufficient time for effective planning and organisation. A later date will be confirmed and relevant details provided early next term.

Facilities Projects

As part of preparations for our gazebo paving and sand-and-water play project, drainage assessment contractors will be onsite during the first week of the school holidays.

During the break, we will also replace the louvre windows in the Dingo Building, which have presented ongoing issues since the building opened. In addition, we are pursuing carpet replacement works for the Koala and Prep Crocodile classrooms, with this project expected to occur during the September school holidays.

Coming Up Tomorrow

Milo’s Birthday Surprise

We are looking forward to seeing our prep students dressed as their favourite Little Learners characters tomorrow. This will be the theme for the assembly presentation for all the prep students tomorrow. Parents wishing to attend please aim to attend by 2.00pm.

FIFA World Cup

In yesterday's Compass post, we were excited to share news of the rare opportunity for our students and staff to watch a major international sporting event live.

While students in Years 3–6 will view the match in the gymnasium, all students who wish to watch will be provided with the opportunity to do so. Alternative arrangements will be available for students who do not wish to view the event.

Assembly

Tomorrow's assembly will commence following the conclusion of the Socceroos v Paraguay FIFA World Cup match.

As a result, the assembly will be shorter than usual and will feature:

  • Prep Milo's Birthday Surprise performance
  • Pupil of the Week Awards
  • Marrung Representative Report

Visitors are asked to be seated by 2:00pm.

End of Term Tomorrow

Term 2 concludes tomorrow with an early finish at 2:30pm.

Following assembly, students will return to their classrooms for dismissal. Families are reminded that school finishes one hour early on the final day of Terms 1, 2 and 3, and two hours early on the final day of the school year.

Please ensure arrangements are in place for students to be collected promptly at 2:30pm. TheirCare will operate as normal from the earlier dismissal time.

Looking Ahead to Term 3

Industrial Action Update

The Australian Education Union (AEU) has advised that some forms of protected industrial action will recommence from the beginning of Term 3 (Monday 13 July 2026) and continue until further notice.

At this stage, the planned actions are not expected to significantly impact the day-to-day operation of the school or student supervision. However, families may notice union campaign materials and staff wearing union-branded insignia.

We will continue to keep families informed should any industrial action result in changes that affect student learning programs, reporting processes or school operations.

Best regards,

Brendan
