3/4 Excursion to NGV

Our students had a wonderful day exploring the Ian Potter Centre: NGV Australia, where they had the opportunity to connect our classroom learning with the history and art of Melbourne. During a guided tour, we learnt about the establishment of Melbourne, the impact of the Gold Rush and how the messages and ideas behind historical paintings can still have meaning and relevance today. Students were able to demonstrate and extend their knowledge of Australian history, making connections to our learning about the First Fleet and early explorers. It was fantastic to see students using what they had learnt at school to understand and discuss the artworks in front of them. We also had time to explore different sections of the gallery at our own pace, taking in the art and discovering pieces that caught our interest. To finish the day, we headed to a nearby playground for lunch, a well-earned break and some time to play before making our way back to school. It was a fantastic day of learning, exploring and making connections between history and art!
