Congratulations to all of the Confirmation Candidates who received the Sacrament of Confirmation on Saturday, 10th May at St Patrick’s Cathedral. A special thank you to Bishop Rene Ramirez for celebrating the mass and confirming the candidates, the staff at St Patrick’s for their guidance and support, Larissa and Dion for the beautiful music, the school communities and the families and friends, for being part of their preparation and sharing in the celebration.
Congratulations candidates, we hope that Saturday was a special day, and the Holy Spirit is with you all of your days.
Pope Leo
We welcome and give thanks for Pope Leo as he embarks on his role as Pope of the Catholic Church. After two days and four votes, the white smoke signalled that Cardinal Prevost was elected Pope Leo XIV.
The American born, Chicago native, is the second Pope from the Americas and to first from the Augustinian order. After many years a missionary in Peru including being made Bishop of Chiclayo, he returned to the Vatican City and served the community in many different roles. Pope Francis created him a Cardinal in 2023 and continued to serve the Catholic community from the Vatican.
New Pope Facts
- Did you know that Pope Leo was a math's teacher in Chicago and was accepted into Harvard Law?
- Pope Leo speaks five languages, English, Spanish, Italian, French and Portuguese.
- His actual name is Robert Francis Prevost.
- He was born in Illinois, Chicago.
On the day of his election, Pope Leo XIV wore a pectoral cross (the cross he wears from his neck) containing relics of saints linked to the Augustinian order: those of Saint Augustine and the saint's mother, Saint Monica.
Sacraments of Reconciliation and First Eucharist
On Tuesday 29th April, St Gabriel’s and St Raphael’s candidates joined the St Joseph the Worker candidates and their parents from St Joseph the Worker to participate in the Family formation night in preparation for the forthcoming Sacraments. Thank you to Pauline Cicutto for leading this session and generously sharing her knowledge and understandings to enable our students and families to deepen their relationships with God through sacraments.
First Reconciliation
Friday 30th May at 10.00 am in the St Joseph the Worker Parish Church.
Students will attend Reconciliation in the church with Fr Pritchard and Fr Jossy for the first time. We wish them well as they finalise their preparation and receive the sacrament for the first time.
***PLEASE NOTE*** Parents are most welcome to join the students for the Sacrament of Reconciliation. Please note that this is the Rite of Reconciliation ONLY. There will not be a prayer service or liturgy. Reconciliation is a private conversation between the students and God, with the priest being a conduit to enable this conversation. This is a prayerful, reflective and reverent time for the students.
First Eucharist
Saturday 21st June at 11.00 am in the St Joseph the Worker Parish Church

Making Jesus Real
MJR 2.0 (Making Jesus Real) has been relaunched, and the school community has been busy observing and nominating those who are making Jesus real through their actions, words and choices that they make. Congratulations to all our ambassadors. Each week, an Audiri will be sent home with the week’s ambassadors and all those who have been nominated.
Let us continue to work together, making Jesus real for all those we meet in our communities.
Go gently and be well,
Kate
