Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden

Briony Zagame

The past few weeks have been a hive of activity in the kitchen and the garden.

Last week in between showers of rain, we harvested some carrots and potatoes. We then participated an activity where we picked different leaves, and using a rubber mallet pressed the imprint onto some calico fabric. The results turned out really well as you can see below.

Week 4 Contributed by the Smokin' Hotpots (Charlie, Hazel and Jon)

Our group the Smokin' hotpots made Indian flat bread. We made the dough first and then we rolled out 32 balls. We then fried the Indian flat bread in oil. Lukewarm water was a new word that we learnt. The Sassy Strawberries made pasta, while the Rizzie Raddishes made the Tomato and Basil Sauce.  We had a number of visitors helping out!

Very special thanks to Oliver's dad Head Chef Chris, Charlie's nanna Sandy, and Maisie's nanna Marea with also Oliver's Mum, Ryan's Nanna, Ned's Mum, Sophie's Mum and Mr Kelly joining us to eat!

We also celebrated Charlie's Birthday with homemade cupcakes as a treat for after a lovely meal.

Week 6 we cooked banana bread muffins which were phenomenal!

Most of the class agreed this was the BEST recipe! We chose the banana bread because it was sweet. Thank you to Emily and Dan Lane, Marsie and Jac of course.

Smokin’ Hotpots made baked ricotta and spinach gnocchi (This dish was very cheesy, and the sauce was tangy). Rizzie radishes made the carrot and garlic muffins (The garlic on top was very sour and very cheesy). Sassy Strawberries made the roti (it was doughy and tasted the same as Indian flat bread). Baddelicious Bananas made the one and only banana bread muffins (These just tasted amazing).

New words we learnt gnocchi, roti, ricotta.
