Breakfast Club
Now that the mornings are very cold, it’s easy to sneak a few more minutes in bed…sometimes at the expense of breakfast. Breakfast Club runs in the Canteen every Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday morning before school. It is open to ALL students. It is a great spot to stay warm and start the day with some chats and laughs. We encourage all students to make use of this fantastic resource.
We secretly thanks Danielle, the Charlton Bakery, Caffeinated Chaos and Foodbank for the support of this Program!
Introducing Jacinta, our Secondary School Nurse.
Some students will know Jacinta as one of the organisers of the Buloke Youth Health Expo. However, the Secondary School Nurse program is much more than organising a biennial event or fixing scraped knees and supplying icepacks.
School nurses can help you in many ways, from being a kind person listening, to helping with navigating the healthcare system, finding funding for care, goal setting and problem solving, supporting teachers in the classroom, supporting school admin with developing health support plans and policies, working with staff around ideal lunchboxes and food at school, and coordinating health and wellbeing focussed events at school.
The Secondary School Nurse is employed by the Department of Education and is in your school to support student health and wellbeing and promote better health in the wider community.
The Secondary School Nursing is available to all secondary students, and you don’t need a referral. So, call in to the Wellbeing room, or see the brochure in the front office, for more information about the Secondary School Nurse and to organise a chat.
Headspace
We are very fortunate to be supported by Headspace here at Charlton College. Headspace clinician, Emily Noonan visits Charlton weekly and provides no cost mental health support to students.
Headspace also offers support in the following areas;
Free GP
Free Dietitian
Free trainings like Youth and Teen Mental Health First Aid
And of course, free mental health support
Parenting Program Tuning Into Teens, a six-week parenting program on adolescent development and emotion coaching for parents and staff of teens / pre-teens.
Occupational Therapy
Over the coming weeks you may see a new face around school. We have been very lucky to secure an Occupational Therapist, Baelea Collins who will be working with staff and students every second Friday. Baelea will work with small groups, provide advice to staff and supporting the implementation of our Disability Inclusion Program.
More information and consent forms will be sent to families for applicable students in the coming weeks.
Catholic Care Victoria (CCV)- Parent programs & workshops
Over the year, CCV run a wide range of one-off parent programs, as well as lengthier workshops. The delivery is both online & face-to-face & addresses a range of range of useful topics. Some programs are free; however, some attract a cost.
Each term they publish a calendar which will feature on the Parent’s Bulletin. In the past, a number of staff & families have participated in CCV programs & have spoken very highly of them. Please see the attached flyer as to what’s on offer in Term 2.

Save the Date - RUOK Day?
Secondary students will be participating in RUOK Day awareness session on Thursday 10th of September. We have been fortunate enough to be supported by the NLLEN who have arranged guest speaker, Tom Dunn to present to students.
Tom Dunn is a young Australian Adventurer/Advocate. Despite being just 27 years old, Tom has already raised over $100,000 for charity through his ultra endurance adventures. By pushing himself to surpass his own and others' expectations, Tom has realised that “Anyone can do anything, if given the opportunity”.
His website is here: https://www.tomdunn.com.au/about
Tom’s presentation will be followed by activities that will focus on building the skills to have meaningful conversations and confidently check in with friends who may be struggling. The session will explore practical communication techniques, active listening, and how to start conversations that matter.
