Year 2 - Newsletter

Dear Year 2 families,
It has just clocked over halfway through Term 3! Some things for the students to look forward to over the next two weeks include:
-Thursday 20th August: PJ Day
-Wednesday 26th August: Book Day
-Thursday 27th August: Healseville Sanctuary excursion
What about in the classroom?
Mathematics
Students are applying their knowledge of multiplication and division to solve problems involving groups of and sharing, and are showing their understanding using multiple strategies including arrays, repeated addition and skip counting.
Literacy
We have started our Information Report unit on Fauna. We are currently building background knowledge on fauna, as well as looking at text features used in information reports, such as present tense and the use of subheadings to sort information. Over the next week, students will be choosing an Australian animal to research and eventually use that to write their own information report. They will be able to gather more information while we are on our excursion next week.
Inquiry
Last week we looked at the Prep - Year 2 playground from the view of an ‘observer’: what does it include that we like, and (if we had an unlimited budget!) what would be like to include in this space. Students will use their ideas to design their ‘ultimate playground’!
Reminders
- Please continue to read regularly at home and return readers to school.
- Mathletics tasks have been assigned and are available for your child to complete at home if they choose.
Term 3 is often the cold and flu season, with coughs and colds moving through the year level.
Please keep your child at home if they are feeling unwell to help prevent the spread of illness.
Thank you for your ongoing support.
