NAPLAN
Over weeks 7 and 8 students have completed their final NAPLAN tests ever! The students did a fantastic job and showed great determination and resilience during the tests. To celebrate finishing their final NAPLAN test, the students had a hot chip lunch on Friday of week 8!
Surf Camp
During Week 6, we had the year 9 outdoor education grade head to Wilson’s Prom to shred some waves! We have had a few students that would like to share their experiences on the surf camp:
“A few weeks ago we went on surf camp for 3 days, most of us hopped on a minibus with Mr. Kimpton and we got there after a couple of hours.
We had our first lesson as soon as we got there! It was kind of funny because none of us could surf when we got there and everyone kept drifting away from flags because the boards were too big.
We were provided with dinner both nights but cooked for ourselves. On day two, we did two lessons and I feel like the group improved a lot. It was great to spend time hanging out and swimming at Whisky Bay.
Overall, it was a great experience, and I would do it again!” - Amelia P “Surf camp was an amazing camp, and we learnt so much from the instructors. We got to see some amazing views! Everyone there was so nice and friendly, and I had the time of my life. I hope I get the opportunity to do it again next year!

Parent Teacher Conversations
Just a reminder that parent teacher conversations are coming up on the 1/4 and 2/4. The year 9 cohort has had more than 76% of students increase their LBU during Term 1. It would be great to get the opportunity to share their accomplishments and challenges with you!
Of the 88 students to receive an LBU: - 67 students (76%) LBU improved from their last score - 73 students (83%) had an LBU of 3.0 or higher - 45 students (51%) had an LBU of 3.5 or higher
School Wide Positive Behaviour Support (SWPBS)
As previous years, we will be continuing the use of Kurnai Positive Acknowledgements (KPA’s), it has been fantastic to see students working hard and showing determination to display all of Kurnai’s four pillars. Keep up the great work!

Year 9 Camp
Year 9 camp will be a discovery camp to Melbourne ran through the company DOXA. Students will get the opportunity to explore venues such as the Queen Victoria market, Melbourne Cricket Ground and Eureka Skydeck.
The expression of interest has been closed. There will be no expressions of interest accepted after this point. At this stage, there have been more than 60 students who have expressed interest in the camp, and this will result in some students missing out. The following factors will be taken into consideration when deciding the 60 students who will attend. These four factors have been discussed with students in every assembly. The following factors are:
- Learning Behaviour Updates (LBU’s)
- Attendance
- Suspensions
- Trusted member of our team

Expectations
As a cohort, we have been focusing on key expectations for our Year 9 students. The three main areas we are working on are: arriving to class on time, bringing all necessary equipment to class, and wearing the correct uniform.
Across this term, the year 9 students have been working towards wearing the correct uniform.
Just a reminder that students need to wear blue hoodies underneath shirts and blue tracksuit pants only.
