Year 7 Camp Coolamatong

The Year 7 Camp will take place from Tuesday 19th to Friday 22nd May at Camp Coolamatong, located near Paynesville on the Gippsland Lakes. This camp is always a highlight of the Year 7 experience and provides a fantastic opportunity for students to build friendships, develop confidence and enjoy the outdoors together.

Some students may already be familiar with Camp Coolamatong from primary school camps; however, the program we run is designed specifically for our Year 7 students and aims to provide a variety of engaging and memorable experiences.

Students will have the opportunity to take part in a wide range of exciting activities such as climbing and abseiling, low ropes, sports, cooking, a boat trip to Ninety Mile Beach, combat archery, mountain biking, kayaking, bushwalking, sailing and an Indigenous cultural session. These activities encourage teamwork, resilience and the chance for students to challenge themselves while trying something new.

The camp is now open for parental consent on Compass. The cost of the camp is $500. Families can use CSEF funds if eligible (if not enough CSEF funds, must pay difference as initial payment) and payment plans are also available if required.

To assist with planning, we ask that families please provide consent in Compass (payment is not required at this stage) by the end of Term 1.

If you would like further information about the camp, please contact our Camp Coordinator Mr Russell White or Year 7 Team Leader Mrs Helen Brown. If you require assistance with payment plans, please contact the school office.

School Athletics Day

Our recent School Athletics Day was a fantastic event, with students showing great enthusiasm, participation and sportsmanship throughout the day. It was wonderful to see so many students getting involved, supporting one another and representing their houses with pride.

A special congratulations to our Year 7 Age Group Champions, Tayt Talerico and Mikinlee Russell for their outstanding performances across the events. Well done!

KAAP Excursion – Victorian Institute of Sport

On Monday 16th of March the students involved in KAAP, the school’s sports program, went to Melbourne to the VIS which stands for Victorian Institute of Sport. Here we had a tour of their facilities at VIS, we saw gyms and the pool room. The pool room had a 25m lap swimming pool, a warm pool, a cold pool and an ice bath for recovery. After the tour, we watched a presentation about biology and sport science. There was also some Olympians and Paralympians at VIS.

On Monday the 16th of March, KAAP students from year 7 to 10 went to the Victorian Institute of Sport (VIS) in Melbourne. We got a tour of the facilities there were for training, where we saw the plunge pool, swimming pool and saw some Olympians and Paralympians practicing in the gym. We also got to do a vertical jump test, where we had

to jump straight up see to how high we got in cm. Then, we got a PowerPoint presentation, which was about sport analysis. During the presentation, we got to do our own analysis on a match of curling, where the Australian team was playing. We thought about what they did wrong, what they could improve on, and other things. After that, we saw Scotty James, a Winter Olympian who won a medal in the 2026 Winter Olympics.

NAPLAN

Our Year 7 students recently participated in NAPLAN. Despite experiencing some technical difficulties initially, we were incredibly proud of the way students approached the assessments with focus, patience and determination. They demonstrated great resilience and remained committed to doing their best in the Reading, Writing, Numeracy and Language Conventions assessments. Their positive attitude and effort throughout the process were a credit to them.

Common Assessment Tasks

Year 7 students have been completing their Term 1 Common Assessment Tasks (CATs). These tasks provide an opportunity for students to demonstrate their understanding of the topics they have been learning throughout the term. CATs are designed to showcase student learning rather than act as traditional pass or fail tests. Students are encouraged to do their best and apply what they have learned, with tasks completed in a supportive classroom environment rather than under formal exam conditions. Results of the CATs are published on Compass. Please reach out if you require assistance accessing them.

Parent, Student & Teacher Conversations

Bookings for Parent Teacher Conversations can be made through Compass. If you require assistance with the booking process, please contact the front office. These conversations provide a valuable opportunity to meet with your child’s teachers, discuss their Learning Behaviour Updates, review their academic progress and ask any questions you may have. If you are unable to attend the scheduled Parent Teacher Conversations but would still like to speak with your child’s teacher, please feel free to contact them via email or phone to arrange a suitable time.
