Message from our
Campus Principal

As we come to the end of Term 1, I want to take a moment to acknowledge what has been a positive start to the year for our Churchill Campus. Whilst it was identified around the week 4 that we had seen an increase in anti-social behaviours, it was also noted that majority of our students show up daily demonstrating the learner traits and behaviours we want to see from all.
A key highlight this term has been the way our students have responded to the clear expectations we have set around behaviour and the culture we want to see across the school. Through whole-school assemblies, targeted year level work, increased staff presence in the yard, and some adjustments to how our spaces are used, we have worked together to address some anti-social behaviours that were impacting on student experience.
What has been most pleasing is the response from our students.
As a campus, we have seen a significant reduction in behaviour write-ups, and more importantly, we are seeing a noticeable improvement in how safe students feel across the school. Students have, in large numbers, responded positively to the message that we are all responsible for creating the culture we want to see at Kurnai.
This shift doesn’t happen without collective effort. I want to acknowledge our students for the way they have stepped up, our staff for their consistency and presence, and our families for their ongoing support in reinforcing these expectations.
Across the term more broadly, we’ve seen students engaging strongly in their learning, building positive relationships, and contributing to a calm and focused learning environment. This is something we are really proud of and will continue to build on in Term 2.
Thank you to our families for your ongoing support, and to our staff for the energy and commitment you continue to bring each day.
A Strong Display of School Spirit
Our Athletics Day on March 3rd was a great success and a highlight of the term.
It was fantastic to see strong participation across all year levels, with students getting involved, supporting one another, and contributing to a really positive atmosphere throughout the day.
What stood out most was the way students conducted themselves—demonstrating sportsmanship, encouragement and pride in their teams.
A big thank you to Rachel Dodd for her organisation, and to all staff who supported the day to ensure it ran so smoothly.
Congratulations to Green House for taking out the win…well done to all involved!
Our most recent Learning Behaviour Updates (LBUs) have been published, and the results are something we are really pleased with as a campus.
We had 200 students achieve an average of 3.5 or above, which is a strong indicator that students are consistently demonstrating the learning behaviours required to be successful in the classroom.
We know that when students consistently demonstrate positive learning behaviours—being organised, engaged, and respectful—it gives them the best opportunity to maximise their learning.
A special congratulations to the following students who achieved a perfect 4.0 average—an outstanding effort:
This is an exceptional achievement and something to be incredibly proud of.
Supporting student wellbeing continues to be a priority across our campus.
Our Advocates Office remains a key support space for students throughout the day. We encourage students to access this support when needed—whether that’s for learning, wellbeing, or simply to check in.
As we move into the colder months, we will also be working with students and families to ensure everyone has access to appropriate uniform. Please don’t hesitate to reach out to our team if support is required…we are here to help.
We’re also pleased to confirm that Breakfast Club will continue to run Wednesday mornings from the Cooking room. This is a great opportunity for students to start the day positively, connect with peers, and ensure they’re ready for learning. The vibe down there this year has been awesome, a big shout out to Chris Flake and Selena for their effort in this space.
As we wrap up Term 1, I want to again thank our entire school community for the role you play in supporting our students.
We are proud of the way our students have approached the term and the positive culture we continue to build at Churchill.
With Easter approaching, I hope all families enjoy a well-earned break, and we look forward to welcoming everyone back for Term 2.
