Term 1 has seemingly flown by, and since the last newsletter, Year 8's have participated in inter-school sports, athletics day and completed their Term 1 assessments. The Year 8 team wishes a happy, restful holidays to the Year 8 Learning Community.

Interschool Sport

In week 8, Year 8 boys had the opportunity to represent our school at the Wellington Cricket in Morwell. Whilst they didn’t come home with a win, they showed great sportsmanship, resilience and effort.  This week, a number of Year 8 students will also be going out to Morwell to compete in Wellington Volleyball. Volleyball is a skill they have been working on this term in PE and we wish them the best.

A big congratulations to Vienna Moss, who is the respective age group champion after athletics day. Vienna participated in several track-and-field events (dressed as the Lorax at the time), walking away with plenty of ribbons.

Hot Chip Lunch

55 Year 8 students who received an LBU of 3.5 or higher were rewarded with a hot-chip lunch this term. This has now become a ritual at Year 8 to celebrate success and positive behaviours within the cohort.

Congratulations to these students!

Around the Classrooms

This week, students are busy completing end of term Common Assessment Tasks (CATs). The purpose of CATs is to consolidate knowledge and skills learnt over the term. At times, CAT weeks can be fatiguing and overwhelming, but the Year 8 cohort has shown great resilience.

‘My favourite class right now is PE because we get to play fun games and learn new skills’ – Loretta Pearce.

‘My favourite class right now is English; English has definitely been one of my favourite classes for years now because I think writing is fun and creative!’ – Azaala Johnson

‘My favourite class is PE, because we get to be active and learn volleyball’. – Chloe Steele

Year 8 Camp

This year, Year 8s will venture to Phillip Island Adventure Resort between the 24th-26th of June. Students will have the opportunity to participate many activities including giant swing, double flying fox, laser tag, high ropes, camp fire cooking, team rescue, archery and more!‘

Year 8 Camp was great and the highlight of the year. My favourite activity was the giant swing.’ William Bailey, Year 9 Student (attended camp in 2025).

Year 8 camp was phenomenal. The rooms were the nicest rooms I’ve seen on a camp, it was nice having your own bathroom in every room. As for activities, the Giant Swing was my favourite.’ Zoey Victor, Year 9 Student (attended camp in 2025).

Consent for camp will be on compass by the end of the term. CSEF and payment plans will be available.
