What inspired you to become a teacher?
I wanted to pursue teaching as I love that no two days are the same, and I am always learning something new with the kids. During my studies to become a teacher, I always loved and was motivated by the energy that was involved with the job- it makes each day exciting for both myself and the students!
What do you believe makes an effective learning environment for students?
I believe that co-constructing classroom rules that are fair, and foster our value of respect in the classroom, allows students to feel safe and happy during their learning. When students have a say in how they want to be treated and are aware of how they should treat others, it allows everyone to be treated fairly- and most importantly, with kindness. Also, a classroom where you are free to be yourself and express your creativity is key!

What is one strategy you use to check that students really understand what they’re learning?
I regularly use mini whiteboards during lessons so every student can show their thinking at the same time. This gives me immediate feedback about who understands the concept, who may need extra support, and whether I need to adjust my teaching before moving on.
How do you build strong relationships with your students?
Building strong relationships starts with making students feel seen, heard and valued. I take time each day to connect with students through our morning circle, check-ins and informal conversations. By showing genuine interest in their lives and creating a safe, supportive classroom environment, students feel more confident to take risks in their learning and be themselves.

How do you support students at different levels to all experience success?
I try to empower all students to achieve success by
partnering with teachers to deliver targeted learning, fostering an inclusive environment, and providing vital social-emotional support.
When you aren’t at work, you like to...
keep fit, relax and spend time with friends.
