From the Acting Principal

Dear families,

Winter is here! What great timing for a long weekend for the King's Birthday on Monday 8th June. A reminder that the school is also closed on this Friday 5th June - this gives  us all four days to rest, rug up and rejuvinate for the sprint to the end of the term!

Term 2 will finish for all students on Thursday 25th June at 1:00pm. YLV will be offering aftercare on this day from 1:00pm and bookings are essential.

Holiday Program @ St Mark’s - Youth Leadership Victoria has advised that they will once again be offering a Holiday Program at St Mark’s during the Term 2 holidays. The program will be open from 7.00am-6.30pm each day. Please see below the program.

Parent Support Group Meetings (PSG) - Ms Wright and Miss Kate will be communicating with families about how to book in online for your child's PSG meeting which will be held across the following dates; Tuesday 9th, Monday 15th and Thursday 18th June. These meetings can be in person or online. PSG's bring together families, educators, and health professionals to plan inclusive, targeted support for students with additional needs. The core purpose is to collaboratively develop educational adjustments, review a child's progress, and establish supportive goals. These meetings provide direct evidence of collaboration, which is a mandatory requirement for NCCD funding. Please see the NCCD Information page of this newsletter for more information.

Semester 1 Reports & Student Led Learning Conferences – Semester 1 Reports will go home to all families in Week 9 on Friday, June 19th. Student Led Learning Conferences will be held in Week 10 on Tuesday June 23rd, 12.15-7.00pm (early 12:00pm finish for students) and Wednesday June 24th, 3.45-5.00pm.

Dates to Remember - all the the Term Dates and School Closure days have been published on the Dates to Remember page since the start of the year. Add these to your diary! The events and special days for Term 3 have been added. These are added to and updated each fortnight.

Crossing Safety - St Mark's families are reminded to use the School Crossings to cross Argyle and Lee Sts. Not only is this a safe practice, it also is a great example to the children to teach them vitally important road safety skills. Our Crossing Supervisor, Eugenia has requested that I remind the adults and the children that they must wait for whistle and take direction before stepping onto the Crossing.

Speed Hump installation - works have began on the installation of three speed humps on Argyle St.  The council advise that the location of these were determined by the continued high speeds recorded on the street. Please be aware of the speed limit reduction from 50km to 40km on all local roads in Merri-bek.

Council do aim to minimise disruption and delay but please allow for extra travel time in case there is extra congestion of traffic during the next 2-3 weeks.

Congratulations to the Gonato family (Layla and Glen) on the safe arrival of Nala, a little sister for Ryah (LA2) and Landon.  Experience tells me a third child brings alot of love, joy and a mix of relaxed, easy going parenting and chaotic, organized madness! What an absolute bundle of joy and we wish you all the best!

I will be absent next week from Wednesday 10th to Friday 12th June to attend the Principals Conference at Torquay with other Principal colleagues from the North Eastern Zone. The focus is Principal Wellbeing and we will be working with Dr Bree Hurn (The Habit Nerd)  to build better habits for work, health and mindset.

You will all be held in the capable hands of Miss Kate (Acting Deputy), Miss Mash (RE Leader) and Miss Wright (Learning Diversity Leader) during my absence.

Stay warm! Enjoy the long weekend with your families and friends!
