Winter Gala Day

What a day. What a result. What a Truganina P-9 College Grade 6 team!

The 2026 Winter Gala Day was an unforgettable celebration of teamwork, determination, and the pure joy of sport. On the 27th of May, our Grade 6 students headed out to the district competition with one thing in mind — to give it everything.

And give it everything, they did.

Rain, mud, and unstoppable spirit

The day didn't exactly start in our favour. Steady rain greeted us in the morning, and the pitches were slick with mud. But if anything, the weather added to the adventure. Our students arrived with high spirits and even higher energy, treating the conditions as just another challenge to conquer. As if to reward their attitude, the sun broke through for most of the day — setting the stage for some truly dramatic matches.

The remarkable story of the Girls Soccer Team

One story from the day deserves a special spotlight.

Coordinated by Mr Lloyd and coached and cheered on by Miss Li, the Girls Soccer Team took on four different schools across four 30-minute matches on a pitch close to full size. Here's the catch: our team had just 8 players, while every other team brought 9 or more. That meant our girls played the entire day with no substitutes — not once. To make things even harder, several matches were played back-to-back, with no break in between.

What happened next was extraordinary. The Girls Soccer Team won every single match and will now proudly represent our college in the District Division in Term 3. That's not just talent — that's resilience, grit, and pure team spirit.

Every team made us proud

While the Girls Soccer Team's story is remarkable, every Truganina team brought their best to the field. From the first whistle to the final siren, our students showed absolute sportsmanship, resilience, and pride in their college. Here are the results:

A huge thank-you to our teachers

None of this would have been possible without our incredible Grade 6 classroom teachers and HPE teachers, who gave so much of themselves to make the day a success. They ran tryouts in extra teaching time, used their own breaks to train students, learnt the rules of unfamiliar sports, and — above all — built our students' confidence to step out and have a go. Their dedication is the heartbeat of days like this one.

Looking ahead

Three teams are now through to the District Division tournament in Term 3 — and we couldn't be more excited. Bring on the next chapter, Truganina!
