A Message from Christina Arnold
At Truganina College, every Curriculum Day is carefully designed with one goal in mind – ensuring that your child has access to the very best teaching possible. Curriculum Days are our way of investing in your child’s teacher.
Research consistently shows that when teachers work collaboratively, share expertise and learn from one another, student outcomes improve. For this reason, our Curriculum Days focus on strengthening our teachers' knowledge, skills and collective capacity to support every student to learn, grow and succeed.
On Friday the 29th of May, our staff participated in professional learning led by Mark Corrie, whose work focuses on strengths-based leadership and building high-performing teams. Throughout the day, staff explored how recognising and building on individual strengths can strengthen relationships, improve communication and create a culture where people feel valued, supported and empowered to continuously improve.

Teachers also learned about different feedback styles and how understanding the way people prefer to receive feedback can strengthen teamwork and professional conversations. When teachers communicate effectively, trust one another and feel comfortable sharing ideas and challenges, they are better able to work together to support student learning.
This learning is particularly important within our Professional Learning Communities (PLCs), where teachers regularly collaborate to analyse student progress, plan lessons and identify the most effective teaching strategies. Strong collaborative teams enable teachers to learn from one another, solve problems together and ensure students receive high-quality, consistent learning experiences across the College.

The day also reinforced our commitment to inclusion, belonging and respect for diversity. This work aligns strongly with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander ways of knowing, being and doing. Strengths-based approaches recognise the importance of relationships, community, belonging and the strengths that individuals bring from their cultural backgrounds and lived experiences.

Through a First Nations lens, learning is strengthened when people feel connected, valued and respected within a collective community. By intentionally focusing on strengths, stories, identity and relationships, we create culturally safe environments where diverse perspectives are acknowledged and celebrated. This supports our commitment to reconciliation, inclusion and ensuring that every member of our community feels a sense of belonging and connection.

Ultimately, investing in our teachers is an investment in our students. Every Curriculum Day is an opportunity to strengthen teaching practice, build collective expertise and ensure that every child at Truganina College benefits from outstanding learning experiences every day.
