Grade 6 School Jumper Design Winner – Layla

Congratulations to Layla, whose artwork was voted (by grade 5 students) as the official 2026 Grade 6 school jumper design. Layla’s design will now feature proudly on next year’s Grade 6 jumpers. Well done, Layla!

To commemorate Remembrance Day, Senior S wrote poems using imagery and repetition, reflecting on a minute’s silence.

Jai’s Poem

In one minute’s silence, you might imagine the soldiers standing together, praying to make it home.

In one minute’s silence, you might see the soldiers sprinting into the open without looking back.

In one minute’s silence, you might hear the soldiers’ gunshots firing from dusk till dawn.

In one minute’s silence, you might feel the weight of their courage on your back.

In one minute’s silence, you might understand that every soldier matters and when the silence ends, the soldiers can peacefully rest.

Mae’s Poem

In one minute’s silence, you might imagine the sky waiting for dawn and the sea holding its breath.

In one minute’s silence, you might see shadows stretching across long distances and dirty sandbags from the dark trenches.

In one minute’s silence, you might hear the sound of boots trudging through thick mud and the heartbeat of hope.

In one minute’s silence, you might feel the ache of their distance and silence carried across the world.

In one minute’s silence, you might understand and see that their stories still live on.

Anglesea School of Fire

As part of the Anglesea ‘Survive and Thrive’ program, the Year Sixes travelled around the community to visit key Neighbourhood Safe Places, including the Surf Club, Bowls Club, local shops, the Yacht Club and the riverbank. Their task was to investigate what happens when people cannot leave town during a fire and how these safe places support the community in an emergency.

Students examined the facilities at each site (such as shade, water access, first aid areas, and open spaces) and used critical thinking to decide how these places could help people during a stressful or chaotic situation.

A key focus of the program was understanding that emergencies can feel frightening, confusing and overwhelming for both visitors and locals. Students learned that during a fire event, many people may be panicking or unsure of what to do.

As young people who know Anglesea well, our Year Sixes recognised the important role they can play. They learned how to:

reassure adults and children,
guide people safely to gathering points,
remain calm and confident themselves, and
support others with clear, steady communication.

The program helped students see that even at their age, they can make a meaningful difference in keeping the community and its visitors safe.

A reminder that your child/ren need a wide-brimmed hat for outside play at recess and lunch times. Students also require their hats for Bluearth, Physical Education and Gardening. If your child/ren has a new hat, please make sure it is clearly named.

At Home Reading

We encourage every child to read for at least 20 minutes at home every day. This helps to build fluency, reading skills and strategies that your child is working on in class and also helps to foster a love for reading.
