Year 12 Psychology Sleep Study
As part of their Unit 4, Area of Study 1: Sleep, our Year 12 Psychology students recently had the exciting opportunity to take part in a hands-on sleep study conducted by Monash University. Using specialised equipment for polysomnography, including EEG (electroencephalogram), EOG (electrooculogram) and EMG (electromyogram) recordings, students were able to observe live data showing electrical activity from the brain, eye movements, and muscle tension. This engaging session brought textbook theory to life, giving students a rare insight into how scientists measure and analyse different stages of sleep.
8B & Year 9 Yakult Excursion
As part of their studies on immunity, bacteria and the human microbiome, our Year 9 Science students visited the Yakult factory to explore the fascinating world of probiotics. Students learned how beneficial bacteria play a vital role in gut health and how Yakult’s unique Lactobacillus casei Shirota strain is cultivated and prepared for consumption. The excursion offered a behind-the-scenes look at the production process, quality control measures, and scientific principles behind probiotic drinks. This hands-on experience deepened students’ understanding of microbiology and the important links between diet, digestion, and wellbeing.
