Holiday Tip for Families

Holidays can be really tricky for families, especially when parents are juggling work while the kids are home. One thing we know is that children often respond well to structure and routine.

If you find yourself needing to manage the kids while continuing to work, try creating a simple schedule for your children to follow throughout the day.

You could structure it similarly to a school day:

🌅 Morning• Activity 1• Activity 2• Morning tea

☀️ Midday• Activity 3• Activity 4• Lunch / snack

🌿 Afternoon• Activity 5• Afternoon tea• Dinner

Get the children involved by having them create their own visual schedule, or make one for them using pictures, drawings or words.

Knowing what’s coming next can help children feel more settled and independent - and it may mean fewer “What are we doing now?” questions throughout your workday!

It doesn’t have to be complicated or perfectly followed. The goal is simply to give the day some structure while making the holidays a little easier for everyone.

Parents at work is a wonderful website with many resources to help working families.
