Co-Curricular - Junior Sport Stage 3

The last few weeks have been a little taste of the warm weather to come, and you can now feel the summer season quickly approaching. All Junior School summer sports will re-commence on our return in Term 4. I am hopeful of having both the draft season draw and training schedule out to the community at the end of this week. This will be available to you via TASS and emailed to the boys. A copy of the training schedule will also be placed in the classrooms.

On Friday a small contingent of Junior School students (eight in total) competed at the NCSWCIS Athletics Carnival, representing IPSHA. The carnival was held at the main running track in Homebush and conditions could not have been better for athletics. Our boys competed across a range of events, from sprints to jumps and throws. The standards were high and the boys from SPC were right in amongst the best. All our athletes finished their events inside the top 10. With event numbers in the high 20s to 30s, a top 10 finish is an exceptional achievement. Many of the boys coming fifth or sixth just missing selection into the CIS Team. 

A special mention must go to Charlie C (Year 5). Charlie competed in a number of track events on the day and was rewarded for his efforts with a second place in the 200m race. This qualifies Charlie to compete in the upcoming PSSA Athletics Carnival on 21 October. I know the whole community will join me in congratulating Charlie and wishing him all the best for the upcoming carnival. Well Done Charlie!

Another student, Aston B (Year 6), spent last week on the Central Coast competing for CIS at the NSWPSSA competition. The competition was very competitive with many teams experiencing a loss before semifinals were announced. In some lopsided games, where scores blew out, it was St Patrick’s College student Aston, leading the scoring for the CIS team. With strong performances in the semifinal, the CIS team was placed in the final against Sydney East. In scrappy affair, which saw end to end football it was ultimately CIS that were victorious. Congratulations to Aston and his team on a well-earned championship. At the end of the Championships Aston also received the individual accolade of being the Championships highest scorer. Aston finished with a very impressive 14 goals, an amazing achievement. Well done Aston!

A reminder that the Junior School Winter Sport Presentation Evening is this Friday 11 September. Please be seated in the Gym for a 5:30 PM start. All boys involved in AFL, football and rugby are expected to be in attendance and should be dressed in their winter uniform, without the blue cap. We look forward to an enjoyable evening, celebrating the achievements of the boys. Parents/carers are warmly invited and asked to sit behind the teams and in the side stalls. I look forward to an enjoyable night, honouring our boys.
