Welcome back to a new school year at Brighton Beach Primary School – and a very warm welcome to all of our new families, especially our Prep students who have started their BBPS journey with such enthusiasm.

Congratulations to all of our students on a terrific start to the year. A special shout-out to our Grade 6 leaders, who have stepped into their leadership roles with confidence, responsibility and pride from day one – we are already seeing the positive impact they are having across the school.

As previously shared, we are pleased to welcome Lara Brierty to our staff this year – teaching 2B, and to welcome back Mr Bolger – we are delighted to have you both as part of the BBPS team.

The first two days of the year were Staff Curriculum Days, with a strong focus on building caring classroom communities. Our professional learning centred on four key areas: relationship building, shared values, consistent routines and student engagement. We were supported by consultant David Anderson, who worked with our team to build capability aligned to this whole-school focus. This work underpins the positive learning environments we are committed to for all students.

A few important reminders about drop-off and pick-up routines at BBPS for the year:

Drop off:

When using the Two Minute Zone for drop off - please drive up towards the end sign to fill any car spaces. It helps to keep the line of cars moving without confusion. Please do not stop near the West gate or in the disabled parking spots. And remember to stay with your car, this is not a parking spot.
If your child is riding their bike, these should be kept over at the cricket fences on Windermere Oval. We ask all travellers to walk their vehicles through school grounds, before and after school.
Classrooms open from 8:45am. Please stay with your child if you arrive before this time (or alternatively TheirCare is open).

Pick up:

Pick up outside the classroom (or agreed location) from 3:30pm.
Students can be picked up in our Two Minute Zone. We recommend this starting from grade 1 (unless Preps come with a sibling).
Please look to the teacher on duty for directions to keep moving up the line when in the Two Minute Zone. Do not take over from cars already waiting patiently. And do not vacate your car – we can call your child over the loud speaker for you – please note, this is not a parking spot.
Students must embark between the furthest road sign and the white fencing. You will notice us redirecting students to their left when exiting the school gate. This ensures that there is sufficient adult supervision for safe departure.

Our PA plays a vital role in contributing to our community at BBPS – we welcome all new members, whether in a formal role, parent representative or helper as needed. We invite anyone available who would like to know more to come along to tomorrow’s Annual General Meeting. Please see the PA section of this newsletter for details about the roles within this very important part of our school community.

As we begin the year together, we are excited about the opportunities ahead and look forward to another year of learning, growth and connection at BBPS.

To help you stay informed see our Communication Policy for further understanding of how we streamline information sharing. Thanks in advance for keeping track of the ins and outs at BBPS:

Use Compass as your key communication platform and turn on notifications to stay up to date.
Our school newsletter is shared fortnightly. It is a great resource to know more about what is happening at BPPS, especially in the classroom.
On a non-newsletter week, a Friday Comms will be shared via Compass, containing key reminders. You will also receive a classroom-based newsletter from your child’s teaching team.
Please refer to the Important Dates section for Term 1 dates, including Curriculum Information Nights, optional 1:1 meeting times and our Welcome BBQ.
The PA calendar, including key events for the whole year, will be shared in the next newsletter.
Parent Representatives from the PA will support communication via allocated school-sanctioned WhatsApp chats. This is an opt-out platform; if you do not wish to be included, please notify Benita in the Administration Office by the end of next week.

Our BBPS Curriculum booklet is attached to this week’s newsletter Compass Post – this details the curriculum and learning program for 2026.

Additionally, a form will go home to families (if it has not already), inviting you to tell your class teacher more about your child. When completed, please return this to your class teacher. Grade 5-6 will be provided with a link to an online form.

Japanese University Visit

Japanese University students Wed 25th February – Sunday 1st March.

We still need some families willing to host our Japanese students. Thank you to those who have already offered.

Please let the admin team (or Bev) know as soon as possible!

First Day of Prep

Bella's mum shared the below pictures of her first day of Prep at BBPS. We love to see the excitement and enthusiasm!

Well done to some of our families, celebrating finally having all children at school (and for some, in one place!)
