“The feast of the assumption of our Lady prompts us to acknowledge the basis for this joyful hope. Yes, we are still pilgrims, but our mother has gone on ahead, where she points to the reward of our efforts. She tells us that we can make it. And, if we are faithful, we will reach home. The blessed Virgin is not only our model, she is the help of Christians. And as we besiege her with our petitions — ‘Show that you are our Mother’ — she cannot help but watch over her children with motherly care.”
~St. Josemaria Escriva, Christ is Passing By
August is the month of the Immaculate Heart of Mary. To encourage spiritual growth and to assist students of MCHF in practicing the faith, we have attached the August calendar outlining the key dates, faith-inspired and Spiritual initiatives planned, as well as recommended prayers and spiritual activities to complete.

The Feast of the Assumption marks a very special occasion for the Maronite Sisters of the Holy Family, as it's the Foundation Day of this blessed Congregation that was founded by the Venerable Patriarch Elias Howayek in Lebanon, back in 1895. This year, the Maronite Sisters of the Holy Family celebrate their 130-year anniversary since their establishment.
To celebrate this blessed feast, the Maronite College of the Holy Family community gathered to celebrate the Divine Liturgy, praying for the intercession of Our Lady. Our staff gathered for a morning tea celebration, and our primary students attended an assembly celebration.

On Tuesday, August 12, students from both the Primary and Secondary Choirs visited the local Aged Care facility to celebrate the Feast of the Assumption. With hearts full of joy and reverence, they shared a special collection of Marian hymns, bringing joy, connection, and a spirit of celebration to the residents. Their beautiful voices and warm presence made the occasion truly memorable, honouring Mary through prayer and music.

Our students and staff came together to take part in the Homeless Feeds initiative, distributing meals for those in need. This experience not only allowed our students to show compassion in action but also deepened their understanding of the importance of service and dignity for all. Thank you to everyone who contributed their time, effort, and generosity to make a difference in the lives of others.

“And do not forget to do good and to share with others, for with such sacrifices God is pleased” (Hebrews 13:16)
Over the past two weeks, students from Kindergarten to Year 6 generously collected a remarkable number of mini snacks and toiletry items to support those experiencing homelessness through the vital outreach of the Vinnies Vans.
Adding a personal and heartfelt touch, students in Kindergarten to Year 2 created beautiful “Cards of Hope”, filled with messages of care and encouragement. Students from Years 3 to 6 worked enthusiastically alongside Vinnies staff on Wellbeing Wednesday to sort and pack the donated items. Their energy, compassion, and eagerness to contribute were truly inspiring.
A huge thank you to all families who supported this initiative, your generosity is always remarkable and deeply appreciated.

During the month of August, in celebration of the Feast of the Assumption students participated in a series of faith formation talks focused on Mary, Mother of God and Star of Hope. These sessions offered a meaningful opportunity for students to deepen their understanding of Mary's role in salvation history, her example of faith and humility, and her special place in the life of the Maronite Church.
Our passionate GEM leaders proudly represented the College at the Secondary Schools Vinnies Gathering 2025.
Throughout the day, they participated in four dynamic workshops that explored Vinnies' good works in the areas of housing, the cost of living, the Vinnies Van, and environmental stewardship. Students also had the opportunity to connect with their cohorts from other schools, exchanging ideas and building awareness around key issues of social justice.
Kind regards,
Sr Juliette Abi Khalil

In celebration of the 130th anniversary of the Foundation of the Maronite Sisters of the Holy Family, students from Years 7 to 9 participated in special talks throughout the month of August. These sessions focused on the inspiring life and mission of the sisters and their Father Founder, Venerable Patriarch Elias Howayek.
Students were invited to reflect on the values of faith, compassion, and service, gaining a deeper understanding of how these virtues can be lived out in their daily lives and within their communities.
