Stage 6 Business Services Update

Year 11 Our Year 11 Business Services students have been actively developing their understanding of workplace health and safety (WHS). Through hands-on learning, they’ve explored how WHS policies, procedures, and programs are implemented within a small team environment. These valuable lessons aim to empower students to take responsibility for their own well-being in the workplace. Their learning was further enriched by completing their mandatory work placement in the Business Services industry, giving them real-world insight into WHS practices.

Year 12 Year 12 students have been working diligently to complete their Certificate III in Business competency tasks. With the HSC exams fast approaching, they’ve also been participating in intensive study sessions to ensure they are well-prepared and confident. Their commitment and focus during this crucial time are commendable.

Stage 6 Construction

Year 11 Construction Industry – Safety & Skills in Action

Year 11 students have been actively completing their Safety Module, which focuses on essential aspects of Work Health and Safety (WHS) policies, procedures, and communication requirements within the construction industry. This module equips students with the foundational knowledge needed to work safely and effectively in construction environments.

As part of this learning, students successfully completed their White Card certification, enabling them to participate in their mandatory industry placement. This real-world experience helps reinforce classroom learning and prepares them for future roles in the sector.

Additionally, students completed the practical component of their Brick and Block module externally at McCarthy College, where they had the opportunity to apply their skills by constructing physical structures. This hands-on experience was a valuable extension of their classroom learning and a great step toward building industry-ready capabilities.

Year 12 Construction students have been busy finalising their major project—building cubby houses—as part of their course requirements. Alongside this, they’ve completed both the practical and theory components of their Brick and Block module. With HSC trial exams underway, students have been focused and committed to achieving their best.

Stage 6 Hospitality

Year 11

Year 11 Hospitality students have been working through Modules 1 and 2, focusing on Working Safely in the Hospitality Industry and Hygiene and Food Safety Practices. As part of their practical learning, students have been preparing delicious (and safe-to-eat!) meals and assisting with multiple school events, showcasing their growing skills.

They also completed their mandatory work placement, allowing them to apply classroom knowledge in real-world hospitality settings and gain valuable industry experience.

Year 12

Year 12 Hospitality students have been extremely busy completing their Food and Beverage module. Throughout the year, they’ve built essential technical skills required to prepare the service outlet, interact with customers, serve and clear food and beverages, and complete end-of-service tasks. They also prepared and served a variety of non-alcoholic beverages to staff and peers, who provided constructive feedback.

In addition to their practical work, students have been focused on HSC trial preparation, engaging in rigorous revision sessions to ensure they are ready for the upcoming exams.

Stage 6 Retail Services

Year 11

Year 11 Retail Services students have been focused on developing a strong foundation in workplace safety and understanding the expectations of the retail industry. Through theory and practical activities, students explored how to work safely in a retail environment, including identifying hazards, following procedures, and maintaining a customer-focused approach.

They’ve also been learning about the day-to-day operations of retail services—such as stock handling, customer service, and evacuation procedures and filling in incidents reports—preparing them for future work placement and employment opportunities in the retail sector.

Year 12

Year 12 Retail Services students have been developing their skills in merchandising and operating the point-of-sale (POS) terminal. They’ve learned how to present products effectively to attract customers, manage stock displays, and process transactions accurately and efficiently. These practical skills are essential for success in a retail environment and have been reinforced through hands-on activities and simulations.

Students have also been preparing for their HSC trials, engaging in revision and study sessions to ensure they are confident and ready for their final assessments.

Stage 6 Sport Coaching

Sport Coaching

Both Year 11 and Year 12 students have been actively involved in the Sport Coaching program, gaining valuable experience by supporting a range of school sporting events. Their contributions have included assisting with Thursday Sports sessions, Primary Gala Days, and both Primary and

Secondary Athletics Carnivals.

Some students have even taken on leadership roles, helping to organise and lead games alongside coaches, demonstrating initiative and teamwork. Their enthusiasm and commitment have made a positive impact across the school community. Well done to all involved!

With a focus on health and nutrition, students researched and prepared Healthy Food Options for Adolescents in food technology, building practical food preparation and teamwork skills.

Congratulations to all our Stage 4 students for their commitment, creativity, and collaborative achievement across these diverse and future-focused areas of Technology.

Year 9 Food Technology

Mrs. Botros' Year 9 Food Tech students get hands-on with the art of pasta making!

Our talented students crafted delicious spinach and ricotta tortellini, putting their theoretical knowledge into practice.

Did you know that tortellini originated in Italy in the 12th century, with legends linking it to the navel of Venus?

Our students learned about the history and techniques behind pasta making, from kneading to shaping, and even got to enjoy the fruits of their labour!  Buon appetito!

Textiles and Design Wrap-Up: A Creative semester across Year 9-12

It has been an exciting and productive time for our Textiles and Design students from Years 9 to 12!

Year 9 students focused on sustainability, applying thoughtful design and practical construction skills to create their very own reusable bags. This project encouraged environmentally conscious thinking while developing foundational textile techniques.

In Year 10, students have launched into a magical new unit, taking inspiration from the world of Disney to begin work on imaginative costume designs. We look forward to seeing their creativity come to life in the coming weeks!

Year 11 explored the artistic side of textiles, designing and creating decorative bookcases as a form of textile art. They are now delving into the glamour and elegance of the 1920s as they undertake their corset assessment task, learning historical context alongside couture techniques.

Our Year 12 students have successfully completed their Major Textiles Projects—an impressive culmination of a year's hard work, with works ranging from intricate wall hangings to expressive pieces of wearable art. We are incredibly proud of their efforts and wish them the very best of luck, as this project contributes 50% of their final HSC mark.

Well done to all our students for their creativity, dedication, and craftsmanship this term!
