Foundation

Hello Families,

This week, our Foundation students enjoyed a special visit to our Sacred Heart Church as part of our Religion unit, Church and Tradition. Throughout this unit, we have been exploring the questions: What does the Church look like in our community? and How can I be like Jesus in my community?

During our visit, the children enjoyed discovering the special items found inside the church, including the tabernacle, baptismal font, altar and crucifix. It was lovely to see their curiosity as they learnt about these items and the important role they play in our parish.

We hope you all enjoy a wonderful and restful long weekend, with plenty of time to relax and spend with your families. See you in Week 5!

Year 1

Hi Families,

We have had another fun week in Year 1! It was lovely to see so many grandparents and special people join us on Monday. We also had one of our students' Pops visit to share stories about the olden days, which linked beautifully to our Inquiry unit, Then and Now.

In Maths, we have been learning about time. The children enjoyed using materials and drawing their own clocks to show o’clock times. It has been wonderful to see their confidence grow! A big thank you to everyone who joined us for Prayers in Pyjamas. What a wonderful event! I hope you all enjoy the four days of YAY!

Have a lovely long weekend.

😊 Terri

Year 2

HELLO Families,

We had such a sensational week as we continue our learning journey. We celebrated Grandparents' Day, thank you to Joshua's and Zach's grandmas that came in to talk to the class about themselves growing up. Our class sang a song infront of other grandparents, so proud of them! Playing around with shapes and through Halloween activities, we discovered more how fractions are all around us. F-2 families had a fabulous Prayers in Pyjamas time, thank you for being part of the spirit of the Sacred Hearts family.  Our last day, was acknowledging all our teachers for Teachers' Day, there is no doubt that "One book, one pen, one child, and one teacher can change the world." (Malala Yousafzai)  Have a wonderful BOO-riffic long weekend ahead, see you next Wednesday!

Year 3/4

Another week of fun and learning in the Year 3/4 classroom, with plenty of Assessment taking place. We were able to complete both the PAT Reading and PAT Maths assessments this week. This will help in the writing of our formal reports which will be available at the end of the year. As well, some of our students also participated in a Maths competition this week, organised by Marty and Antoniette. The students involved enjoyed the challenge! Have a lovely long weekend, see you next week!

Year 5/6 J

Hi families,

This week in 5/6J students had the chance to share with their classmates the research presentations they have been working on over the last week. In small groups, each had a focus on one of the four Gospel authors, where they were responsible for searching for information about the life of the author, and their purpose for writing the stories accounting the life of Jesus. While students listened to each presentation, they took notes on each gospel author and shared information they learnt or found interesting.

Shamus: On Friday the 23rd of October, all the year 5/6s went to the city of Melbourne. We explored many new things like the Scarred Tree in the Fitzroy Gardens, Captain James Cook’s Cottage that came from England, the Block Arcade and the Treasury Building. We also sat on the steps outside Parliament House. We used our $20 to buy our lunch at Melbourne Central. Then we went back to school. It was a very fun experience.

Callix and Katalina: In the city, we saw beautiful paintings at the Ian Potter Museum, located at Federation Square in the centre of Melbourne city. This was the best part of the day for us. Afterwards, we went to Melbourne Central where we ate delicious food in the foreign food court, where the thick, greasy smell of Mary Brown’s chicken was wafting through the court. It was truly a pleasant smell at best! We heard people slowly crunching into the fried delicacy and taking long dragged slurps from a selection of beverages. What a jolly good day it was!

Audrey: Last Friday we had a blast going to the city! We saw old heritage buildings and what new buildings were like. It was so much fun walking around the city and hopping on and off trams. My favourite part was looking at all of the beautiful paintings at the Ian Potter Centre. Another highlight of our trip was walking through the Block Arcade and getting a sneaky chocolate sample from Haigh’s, one of the most fancy chocolate shops I’ve ever seen! Lastly, we went to Melbourne Central to get our lunch and that was super! I loved how we got into groups to go get our food. Sadly, after that, it was time to go ]back to school!

Aisha: We went to the city last Friday and it was fun! We went by train which was great. Later we walked around and got to see new things. We walked and saw lots of shops. Then we went to a chocolate shop and got some chocolates to try (sample). Then we went to a museum and got to see some Aboriginal paintings. Then we went to Melbourne Central to eat some food!

Viraj and Lawrence: On Friday 23rd of October, the year 5/6 students went on an excursion to Melbourne city. We were all so excited! We walked around many places like the Royal Block Arcade, Melbourne Central and a few train stations too. First we went to the Fitzroy Gardens and Treasury Gardens. They were cool. After that, we went to the Royal Block Arcade where we tasted some yummy chocolates at Haigh’s. After this, we got on a tram, but as we were on our way, the tram stopped because there was a religious protest called Falun Gong/Dafyd happening which is illegal in China. We had to then get off the tram and walk all the way to Melbourne Central. Some of us were exhausted! Here we had lunch. Most people got Mary Brown food to eat. It was delicious! We also had Fanta as a dessert. The ride on the tram was good too.

Martin: We went to the city last Friday and we went by train. I sat down next to my best friend. When we went out we explored around. We went to a street shop where they sell many different types of chocolates. Then we went to Melbourne Central and we got to eat our food.

Brayden: We saw a Scarred Tree which the Aboriginal people would cut the bark out for baskets for their babies and for canoes. At the shopping center we got to buy things. And we also went to buy food because we got to bring $20 for lunch. After that we went on a tram and arrived back at school. We had a really fun day.
