BEGINNING OF THE YEAR MASS

The Beginning of the Year Mass reinforces our college’s Catholic identity and provides us with an opportunity to celebrate joy in our community.
On Thursday 19 February, students and staff welcomed guests to the Sacred Heart Church. The service began with a welcome to our new Year 7 cohort. It is always a delight to see our youngest students wearing their college uniforms and standing with pride.
Next, Fr Matthew led a service that emphasised the important role faith plays in a Catholic school. Those in attendance who practise other religions were able to witness and participate. For non-Catholic students, this meant learning the format of a Mass and expectations surrounding behaviour.
This year’s Mass also touched on hospitality and welcoming the stranger, as mentioned in Matthew 25:35 & Hebrews 13:2. Throughout the event, our wonderful College Choir and soloists shared their talents during the Procession, the Rite of Communion, and the Recession.
Following the service, the Principal and members of the Leadership Team presented special badges to the Class of 2026 and to all student leaders, including College Captains and Vice-Captains, House Captains and Vice-Captains, and Specialist Captains. These young leaders then reaffirmed their commitment to the college by reciting the ‘Promise of Responsibility’.
We thank all our guests for taking the time to join us at the 2026 Beginning of the Year Mass.
