Child Safe Standard 2: Leadership, Governance and Culture
Child Safe Standard 2 is about ensuring that child safety and wellbeing are embedded in an organisation's leadership, governance and culture. This means that child safety is reflected in our interactions with children, in the decisions we make, the responsibilities we take seriously and the systems we have in place to support safe environments.
At King's College, child safety is a significant focus for our leadership team and Board. This includes reviewing our child safety policies and risk management processes, identifying areas where we can strengthen our practice, and developing plans to address these areas.
We are also continuing to make our commitment to child safety visible and accessible to our community. This includes updating child safety information and posters, sharing information and contact details with families through our newsletter, and continuing to improve the child safety information available on our website.
Child safety is also a recurring focus in staff meetings across each of our sub-schools. This gives staff opportunities to talk about the Child Safe Standards and think about what they look like in our everyday practice.
A lot of this work happens behind the scenes, but it is an important part of keeping child safety at the forefront of what we do, and continuing to look for ways we can strengthen the safety and wellbeing of children and young people across King's College.
These are examples of our Child Safety posters for Kinder’s Koala Group, Prep G, Year 3 and Senior School.
The Kinder and Junior School posters include classroom teachers, alongside our Wellbeing Team and Lead Teachers, to help children identify people they can go to for support. In Senior School, the posters encourage students to speak to any trusted adult at the College if they need help or have a concern.
