Early Learning

Koala Group
This term the Koala Group have joined in with the Christmas food collection for local Food Share. We have watched a film of how the local Food Share operates, and were impressed to see how familiar supermarkets also get involved by donating fresh foods like apples and bread.
Nimer noticed that the volunteers "look happy. They are smiling".
This was a good observation, and we reflected on how being kind and sharing can make us feel. We can feel great knowing that we are helping someone else.
We have been focusing on sharing, kindness and helping others at kinder, at home, and in our wider community.
We can even help people we've never met to celebrate the birth of Jesus as joyfully as they can! We agreed that we all love to eat lots of special treats at birthday parties, and Christmas is when we celebrate when Jesus was born. "God gave Jesus Christ to the world..." (Romans 3:25a).
Two people in the Bible who showed a willing heart to share were the young boy with the loaves and fish, and Tabitha, who shared her gift of sewing and cooking with others in need.
We have heard both these accounts of kindness as we consider many ways that we can be kind.
At Kinder we are also learning about repeated patterns and life cycles.
We have made patterns with actions, music and objects. We have followed pattern puzzles and worked out what comes next.
In our garden we have planted vegetables and herbs from seedlings, watering them every day, waiting to enjoy eating lettuces, parsley, sugar snap peas, purple and orange carrots!
We made funny grassy heads from seeds, which grew over the holidays.
We have explored the life cycle and behaviour of birds, inspired by the nesting magpie in our kinder olive tree.
Two weeks into term and we have been so busy learning, helping, cultivating and creating!

CRIME CENTRAL!
Last week the Echidna group had a visit from Sergeant Lachie Preston from the Warrnambool Police Station. He showed us around his snaffo police car, blasted the siren continuously (because that's the fun part!), and had stickers and dress-ups for the children. Fun fact - Sergeant Preston is Arthur's dad!
During Seargent Preston’s visit, it was discovered that Mrs Missen’s phone had been stolen from the kinder night before, so Mrs Missen was made an honorary member (Detective J. A. Missen) of Vic Pol by Sergeant Preston in order to solve the crime.
Using all the police equipment on hand, Detective Missen shone the torch in everyone's faces and those that smiled were suspects. Malakai, Ella and Mrs Ezzy could not keep a straight face so were taken away for questioning. Malakai and Ella had alibis. Mrs Ezzy, who was insistent that she was home asleep in her bed at the time of the robbery, had no one to corroborate her story. She was taken to the car and searched by Detective Missen, who located the missing phone in her pocket.
Sergeant Preston arrested and handcuffed Mrs Ezzy and chargers are pending. We now have two vacancies in the kinder. Mrs Ezzy's position is vacant due to potential jail time, and Mrs Missen has quit to pursue a career in the Victorian Police Force after Sergeant Preston reassured her that yes, they take old people - woohoo!
FYI Word on the street is that Mr Brad Zoignert was also seen being arrested and escorted from the college in the police car – either he had been arrested for being far too cheeky, or he is related to Sergeant Preston – you choose!
A BIG thank you to Lachie for such a fun and informative visit!
