YEAR 8 SIGNIFICANT PERSON PROJECT SHOWCASE

🎨🌟 Stories, Art & Gratitude
Two fabulous afternoons were recently held in the Performing Arts Theatre to celebrate the Year 8 Significant Person Project, a program that has been running for 10 years.
The Significant Person Project is a key part of the Year 8 semester curriculum, spanning the Arts, English and Languages faculties. The project provides students with the opportunity to identify and pay tribute to a significant person in their lives.
Students selected a wide range of people, including parents, grandparents, aunts and uncles, coaches and teachers, to acknowledge their impact and importance.
Across the curriculum, students engaged in meaningful and creative learning experiences. In English, they wrote reflective pieces inspired by the character and influence of their chosen person. In the Arts, they created sculptures, paintings and dramatic interpretations symbolising their significant person. In Languages, students designed bunting featuring information about their person in French or Indonesian.
The celebration afternoons provided a wonderful opportunity for students to share their learning and publicly acknowledge and thank their significant person (or a proxy). The events included student presentations, a gallery walk showcasing their artwork, and a light afternoon tea.
A special thank you to our Year 8 Captains, Hermione Crocker and Chase Glenn, and Year 8 Vice Captains, Ava Davarkhah and Mille Wotherspoon, who played a key role in leading the celebration afternoons in the Theatre.
We also extend our sincere thanks to Wendy Powson (Principal), Melissa McMillan (Vice Principal), Sarah Hardy (Head of Arts), Kelly Farrell (Head of English), and Jesse Wilkinson (Head of Languages) for their support of this wonderful project.
A big congratulations to all Year 8 students for their fabulous work celebrating their significant person. 👏
