What’s Been Happening in Auslan?

Prep

Preps have continued learning the signs for common pets. Students worked in pairs to sign both a number and a pet in a sentence to their partner, who then translated the information and represented it by drawing it in their own “Pet Shop.” Everyone did a fantastic job creating their unique pet shops, each filled with a variety of different animals!

Grade 1

Grade 1 students continued learning the different signs for fruit while collecting data using Auslan grammar to find out their peers’ favourite fruits. Students worked hard to keep their voices off during the session and communicate using signs.

Grade 2

Grade 2 students extended their linguistic knowledge by categorising vegetable signs based on their handshapes. They also played a fun game called “Race a Vegetable” to see which vegetable would grow the quickest. Students rolled an Auslan vegetable dice and signed the information to their partner, who then translated it.
