Soccer Update
Griffins Soccer had a fantastic start to the 2026 season, with 11 junior teams taking the field for Round 1. This included a very special milestone for the club, with our inaugural Under 8 Girls, Under 10 Girls and Under 12 Girls teams playing their first round of soccer.
While official scores are not recorded for Under 10s and below, reports from across the weekend were that all teams put forward fantastic efforts on the pitch, showing great teamwork, enthusiasm and Griffins spirit.
The Under 12 Mixed side had a close contest against Mt Lockyer, going down 3–2. Nathan Lembo scored for Griffins, along with Pieter Lourens, who celebrated his first goal for the club.
Our Under 12 Girls had an exciting 3–3 draw against John Calvin. Sophie Mitrovski found the back of the net, while Alaska Dhaliwal Mizzi and Gwen Corson both scored their first goals for Griffins.
The Under 13s faced a tough match against a strong Polonia Red side, going down 4–1. Griffins were well organised in defence and kept Polonia out for large parts of the game. Highlights included a massive diving save from keeper Ollie McCutcheon, blistering solo efforts from midfielders Bronte Pages and Joe Pursey, and an amazing run from striker Richie Mazak, who beat several players before finishing strongly to score the team’s first goal of the season.
The Under 16s came up against a tough Denmark team, with the final score 6–0.
In the senior social competitions, the Men’s Socials ground out a hard-fought 1–1 draw against Sharks.
The Women’s Socials, coached by Mr Stephen Berryman, started their season in impressive style with a triumphant 5–1 win over Bayswater, as they begin their quest to back up last year’s cup-winning season.
Although the weather was not at its best, with rain on and off throughout the day, our players, coaches, volunteers and families showed fantastic commitment and team spirit.
Thank you to everyone who helped make Round 1 such a positive start to the season.
We look forward to a great year of Griffins Soccer.

Griffins Hockey
It has been an exciting start to the season for Griffins Hockey, with 14 teams hitting the turf and bringing great energy across the club.
From our boys’ and men’s teams travelling to Mount Barker, to some fun and competitive Griffins derby matches this week, there’s already been plenty of action.
A special highlight has been watching our youngest players take to the field for the very first time, showing great spirit despite wet and windy conditions!
Our adult teams are also growing in number, with multiple father and son combinations taking the field and some new faces returning to play hockey again after a break.
We’ve also kicked off our Hook into Hockey program this week, and it’s not too late to join in! If you’re keen to give hockey a go, get in touch at hockey@griffins.org.au.
