Mokare Day

Mokare Day was a vibrant and memorable fundraising event that brought our community together for a full day of fun and school spirit. With the theme 'Dress as a Decade', staff and students enthusiastically embraced the challenge, transforming the school into a colourful showcase of fashion and flair from across the eras. The creativity and effort on display were outstanding, with many impressive costumes adding to the festive atmosphere.

A highlight of the day was the hugely successful cake stall, which was overflowing with delicious treats. A sincere thank you goes to all Mokare families who generously contributed baked goods. Your support was greatly appreciated and helped make the fundraising effort such a success.

Excitement peaked at lunchtime with the much‑anticipated staff versus Mokare Year Twelve netball match. It was an epic and closely contested game, with both teams displaying great skill and determination. In the end, the staff narrowly claimed victory by a single point, providing a thrilling conclusion to a fantastic day.

While final counting is still underway, we anticipate that well over $1,500 has been raised to support the Royal Flying Doctor Service.

A huge thank you to everyone who contributed to making Mokare Day the success it was.

Music Camp at Camp Quaranup

Senior Strings, Intermediate Strings, Foundation Band and Concert Band took over Camp Quaranup on Sunday 3 May and Monday 4 May. Young musicians from Years Five to Twelve serenaded the local kangaroos and birdlife while rehearsing for an impressive nine hours across the two days.

Special congratulations go to the students who performed three shows of School of Rock on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, before arriving at camp for Sunday evening, a remarkable effort and commitment.

In between rehearsals, students could usually be found either eating or enjoying a range of activities, including the ever‑popular Chocolate Game, where our youngest musician, Harriet Stan‑Bishop, managed to chop and eat an entire row of chocolate by herself! After dinner, everyone took part in a quiz evening led by esteemed Quiz Masters Tian Bray and Audrey Cherry. The evening included building towers from marshmallows and skewers, as well as the human knot game, racing to untangle themselves. Some of the towers were very impressive.

A great deal of music was made, with significant progress achieved in learning new repertoire, alongside the making of new friendships.

Well done to all students and staff for a wonderful 2026 Music Camp.

P&F Event

Our best turnout yet saw approximately 60 dads and children camp out on the school oval last weekend. While a little rain passed through, it certainly didn’t dampen spirits, and we were rewarded with surprisingly pleasant conditions overall. The occasional shower kept things interesting and provided the perfect excuse to gather together and enjoy roasting marshmallows.

A sincere thank you to Chris from Quickshot Coffee for delivering the much‑appreciated morning caffeine boost, it was exactly what we all needed to start the day!

Sincere thanks to Luke Murnane for coordinating this successful event.

National Boarding Week 2026

National Boarding Week, celebrated from 10 to 16 May, is an opportunity for GSG to celebrate the strength, connection, and unique spirit of our boarding community. Led nationally by the Australian Boarding Schools Association (ABSA), the week highlights the friendships, experiences, and sense of belonging that boarding fosters for students and families across Australia, and here at GSG.

This year’s theme, 'Echoes of Home', reflects what boarding truly means at GSG. While our boarders may come from many places, home is never left behind; it lives on in shared meals, familiar languages, favourite music, stories told after lights out, and the traditions that bring comfort and connection.

At GSG, boarding is a place where home grows, echoes, and is shared.

Save the days and dates below:

  • Sunday 10 May - Echoes of Home
  • Monday 11 May - Boarders Day
  • Tuesday 12 May - Community and Connection Day
  • Wednesday 13 May - Wellbeing Wednesday
  • Thursday 14 May - Family Day
  • Friday 15 May - Boarding Staff Day
  • Saturday 16 May - Principals Day

Let’s come together to celebrate the powerful connections that make boarding so meaningful.

Djinda Pre‑Kindergarten Program 2027 – Applications Now Open

We are excited to announce that the Djinda Pre‑Kindergarten program for 2027 will be offered as a two‑day program (Thursday and Friday).

We are continuously reflecting on best practice and the importance of building strong, meaningful relationships with children and families. With this in mind, we have made the considered decision to move to a two‑day program.

This structure allows for greater continuity of learning, increased opportunities to develop secure relationships, and supports a smoother transition into school life.

An Application for Admission form is required by Monday 1 June.  https://gsg.to/application (Please note: submitting an Application does not guarantee a place.)

For enquiries, please contact julia.bairstow@gsg.wa.edu.au

Triple j's High School Music Competition

Hey there from triple j,

We wanted to give all schools a heads up that triple j's High School musician competition Unearthed High is in its last two weeks with entries closing on May 11.

If you have any musically talented students, we'd love you to encourage them to enter their songs in this year's competition. All they need to do is create a profile on the triple j Unearthed website and upload their song to their profile and make sure they tick the 'enter unearthed high' box in the process.

We'll be picking five finalists to play on air across triple j for a fortnight before we visit the school of the winning artist to surprise them with the help of their teachers. We've visited schools all around Australia over the competition's life including Faith Lutheran College in Adelaide (video: George Alice), Elizabeth Macarthur High School in Sydney (video: DRIZZZ) and Shenton College in Perth (video: Arno Faraji)

The winning artist will receive a songwriting session with one of Australia's biggest songwriters and artists - their choice of G Flip, Genesis Owusu, The Rions or Kinder. They'll also join some big names who have come through the competition in previous years, such as The Kid Laroi, Genesis Owusu, and Hockey Dad.

For any further details visit the triple j Unearthed website and if you have any questions, please don't hesitate to reach out to me directly.

Kind regards,

Tommy Faith
