From the Deputy Principal

Foundation Day and Annual Giving Day
Last week, we celebrated our Foundation Day, a milestone marking the school’s 28th birthday. It is a time to honour our past, celebrate the present, and look with intention towards the future.
One important way we shape our future is through our Annual Giving Day, which coincides with Foundation Day. I would like to thank all those who contributed so generously. Every donation goes directly to the School Foundation, supporting scholarships for students who would not otherwise have the financial means to access a GSG education, as well as funding important capital works.
Annual Giving Day is very much about paying it forward. Our current families benefit from the facilities and scholarship opportunities made possible through the generosity of past families. In turn, future families will benefit from the contributions we make today. This is how strong, sustainable communities are built.
There is a wealth of opportunity at our school, opportunities to pursue dreams, try new things, and support one another. The spirit that has built this school remains strong. While we are custodians of our school culture, we strive each day to honour our traditions while creating new pathways and opportunities for our students to flourish.
I am incredibly proud of our school and excited about what lies ahead. This week, we invited staff, students and parents to participate in a comprehensive survey to help shape our future direction. I appreciate the time and thought that so many members of our community took to provide their feedback.
As we continue to move forward with new priorities and ideas, it is equally important that we hold onto the traditions that ground us and define who we are. Whether they are our guiding pillars, our vision and mission, or cherished moments such as being led to assembly by our Pipe Band, watching our youngest and oldest students cut the birthday cake together, or raising the flags, these traditions create a shared history. They are the common thread that binds us together as one community.
Foundation Day Assembly
For the very first time, all four Houses came together to raise their voices in a spirited performance of We Are the Champions by Queen. The performance created a powerful and uplifting moment, celebrating house pride, community spirit, and the joy of being part of GSG.
Amid the strong performances across all Houses, Mokare House emerged as the winners. This new event was a highlight of the afternoon and provided a wonderful opportunity to see our students united in passion, purpose, and joy.
Running of the Flags
Alongside our Foundation Day Assembly and House Singing, the much‑loved Running of the Flags was filled with house spirit and enthusiasm, with Wilson House proudly taking the win this year.
