Principal's Report

This week we celebrate ‘education support staff week’, acknowledging the wonderful contributions that our support team make to help us provide the best possible education for all students.
Our education support team covers the office administration team, as well as the student support team, and undertake crucial work in our school every day. Whilst some of this work, particularly in the office, is ‘public facing’, much of it is unseen and unknown to most members of our school community. Our education support team help students, families and teachers in many ways and they do so with a minimum of fuss.
On behalf of our teachers, school leaders and broader community, thank you to all our education support staff members for the wonderful work that they do and please know how appreciated each of you are.
As we reach the halfway point of Term 2, staff are moving into a period where they will re-test baseline data from earlier in the year in preparation for the upcoming student reporting period. With events such as swimming and cross-country completed, and no camps scheduled this term, we are in a period of settled learning for all students.
Last week I had the pleasure of walking through our building site, observing the concrete being poured into what will be the base of our new library, performing arts room and the amenities for the gymnasium. Footings for the lift have also been installed, and excitedly we will see the wall panels for the perimeter of the ‘library section’ established next week.
Please observe your Compass notifications in coming days, as further information will be shared regarding some operational adjustments that we will have to make towards the end of next week.
Later in this edition, we have included a summary and further information from our cyber safety awareness night, run by Australia’s leading cyber safety expert, Susan McLean, and hosted by Community Bank Caulfield Park. I continue to receive positive feedback regarding the value of this night, and our School Council will continue to discuss how we can support our school community with similar events in the future.
You may have seen that a revised offer has been submitted to the Australian Education Union by the Department of Education, moving the system closer to a new Victorian Government Schools Agreement. Families need to know that this has ensured a pause to proposed stop work action and if there is further information relevant to families, we will share it with you via our newsletter.
We had a fantastic turnout for our 2027 Prep Information Night last week. With thanks to our student and staff leaders, we provided an overview of learning and wellbeing at our school, as well as advice on the transition from early childhood settings into Primary School. The enrolment period for Prep 2027 is now open, with parents invited to enrol their child/ren into school via the new online ‘Student Insights’ portal (accessed via ‘VicStudents’ and Service Victoria). To support enrolment, we also invite you to join us on a school tour, running each Friday from 9:30am (book tickets here).
Please remember that we have an upcoming curriculum day (student free) on Friday 5th June. On this day, staff will be analysing student achievement data and moderating student assessments, working both within and across year level teams. If you require it, Team Kids will be running a whole-day vacation care program on this day, and bookings are essential.
Thanks for your ongoing support and keep doing your best.
