Student Involvement, Leadership and Living Our College Values

Over recent weeks, we have seen our students continue to represent the College with pride through their involvement in a wide range of opportunities both within the school and across the wider community. It has been wonderful to witness the manner in which our students continue to demonstrate our College values of Respect, Responsibility, Courage and Wisdom in so many different settings.

At the recent Tertiary Information Expo hosted at the College, our students engaged respectfully and maturely with representatives from universities, TAFEs and training organisations. Students asked thoughtful questions, explored future pathways with curiosity and represented themselves and the College exceptionally well throughout the day.

Our students have also continued to demonstrate outstanding sportsmanship and school pride through their involvement in SSV Sport. Whether competing, supporting teammates or representing the College whilst travelling, students consistently displayed positive behaviour, encouragement and resilience.

We were also incredibly proud of the way many of our students supported the recent Grade 6 Activity Days. The leadership, patience and care shown towards our visiting primary students helped create a welcoming and positive experience for all involved. Our younger visitors left with a wonderful impression of the College thanks to the efforts of our students.

A number of students have additionally volunteered their time and energy through coaching and assisting with the St Laurence’s Winter Sport Program. Their willingness to mentor younger students, encourage participation and contribute positively to the program speaks highly of their character and leadership.

Beyond the College, many of our students continue to make valuable contributions within the wider community through involvement in Auskick and junior coaching programs. It is fantastic to see students giving back through community sport, developing leadership skills and acting as positive role models for younger children.

Another fantastic example of student involvement has been our Year 10 Physical Education program operating within the local community. Students have had the opportunity to engage with a range of community-based activities and facilities, including sessions with the Leongatha Croquet Club and local gyms.

These experiences provide students with valuable opportunities to explore lifelong physical activity, build confidence in new environments and develop positive relationships within the wider community. Importantly, our students have represented the College exceptionally well throughout these programs through their respectful behaviour, willingness to participate and positive attitude.

We would also like to sincerely thank the local businesses and community organisations that have welcomed and supported our students. Their generosity, time and willingness to work alongside the College is greatly appreciated and helps create meaningful learning experiences for our young people.

Another highlight has been the involvement of our Year 8 students in the Live4Life sessions currently taking place at the College. These sessions provide important opportunities for students to build awareness around mental health, wellbeing and supporting one another. The maturity, respect and engagement shown by students throughout these sessions has been outstanding.

We were also proud to have five of our Year 9 students attend the Live4Life Launch held at the Leongatha Football Club. The students represented the College exceptionally well and embraced the opportunity to be involved in a community initiative focused on youth mental health and wellbeing.

As a College community, we are incredibly proud of the way our students continue to conduct themselves. Their involvement, leadership and willingness to contribute to others is a reflection of the strong culture that exists within our school community. Thank you to our students, staff and families for continuing to support these opportunities and for the important role you all play in shaping young people of character and integrity.
