Celebrating Catholic Education Week in the Diocese of Sale
‘Every school a home of peace’
“Peace, I leave with you”, says the Lord, “my own peace I give you”.
John 14:27
Catholic schools across the Diocese of Sale will soon come together to celebrate Catholic Education Week, running from Friday 15 May to Friday 22 May 2026.
This special week offers a valuable opportunity to give thanks for the gift of Catholic education and to celebrate the vibrant faith, learning and community life present in our schools.
This year’s theme, “Every school a home of peace,” is inspired by the words of Jesus in John’s Gospel: “Peace I leave with you; my own peace I give you” (John 14:27). The theme also resonates with Pope Leo XIV’s declaration of 2026 as a Special Year of St Francis, inviting all Christians to be “a constant witness of peace” in the spirit of St Francis of Assisi.
Throughout next week, our school will reflect on what it means to be communities of peace—places where respect, compassion, reconciliation and hope are nurtured each day. Activities may include prayer, liturgy, service, and classroom learning that highlights how students can actively contribute to peaceful and life-giving communities.
A key highlight of the week is the Catholic Education Week Mass, which celebrates the learning and faith life of students across the Diocese. This year, the Mass will be held at Nagle College, Bairnsdale, at 11:00am on Wednesday 20 May. Schools from across the Diocese are invited to gather, bringing with them student leaders, school banners, prayers, artwork and images that showcase the richness of Catholic education.
We are proud that a group of students from Mary MacKillop Catholic Regional College will attend this significant diocesan celebration to represent our College. Their participation reflects our ongoing commitment to living out the Gospel call to be people of peace in our school and wider community.
As we celebrate Catholic Education Week, we give thanks for the partnership of students, families, staff and parishes who together create school communities grounded in faith and inspired by hope. May this special week renew in us a deep commitment to ensuring that our school is truly a home of peace for all.
