VET Electrotechnology Students Visit North East Link (Spark) for Industry Insight
On Wednesday, 18 September 2024, VET Electrotechnology students from Macleod College had the unique opportunity to visit the North East Link Project at the Manningham site. This excursion offered an invaluable real-world insight into large-scale infrastructure projects and highlighted the vital role electrotechnology plays in such undertakings.
The North East Link project, one of Victoria’s largest infrastructure initiatives, is designed to connect key roadways and ease traffic congestion in Melbourne’s northeast. As part of the students’ Certificate II in Electrotechnology, this visit was a perfect chance to gain practical industry experience.
The afternoon began with a guided tour led by industry professionals, offering an overview of how various trades, including electrical systems, come together in the construction and operation of the tunnel.
Students were introduced to the scope of the project and how complex systems like lighting, communications, and traffic management are integrated into the tunnel's development.
