Year 6 Graduation!

On Tuesday night our Year 6 graduates had their special graduation ceremony and party. The students read beautiful speeches that described their time at primary school and awards were given out. After the formal ceremony, students and families were welcomed into the decorated hall for photos, food, mingling and a chance to reminisce on their time with our broader school community, past and present.

A big thank you to families who made the graduation evening possible, particularly those who selflessly volunteered their time on our decorating committee (Year 6 families) and food committee (Year 5 families).

Below are the names of students who received a graduation award, along with a short summary of their citation -

Mitcham Value Award (Respect) - Mahad Hassan

Throughout his many years at Mitcham Primary School, Mahad has shown what it truly means to treat others with care, understanding, and thoughtfulness. His reflective nature has enabled him many opportunities and successes, and this is simply another deserving accolade he has rightfully earned. Mahad’s ability to exhibit respect supports him to work beautifully with students, staff and the broader school community to ensure that all voices are heard. Mahad, thank you for valuing the attribute of respect, encouraging others to do the same and for being such a shining example of this value. We are incredibly proud to present the Mitcham Values Award for Respect to Mahad Hassan - congratulations!

Mitcham Value Award (Love of Learning) - Kaylee Tan

During her time at Mitcham Primary School, Kaylee strives to consistently demonstrate all of our Mitcham values, but one stands out in particular, which is her incredible ‘Love of Learning’. In every setting, whether it be in the Montessori environment, specialist classes or extracurricular events, she is a positive role model to her peers.

Kaylee is an inquisitive student whose embodiment of ‘Love of Learning’ deserves to be recognised and commended. She should be extremely proud of herself and her efforts. We thank Kaylee for all that she has given to Mitcham Primary School and we hope she visits to share her successes in the future.

Mitcham Value Award (Kindness) - Sophie Tang

Sophie’s kindness extends into all areas of school life. Her willingness to help, her reliability, and her positive influence on others have made her an integral part of our classroom and wider school community. She leads by example—quietly, confidently, and always with care for those around her. Sophie is a positive role model who reflects the very best of Mitcham’s values. We know that as she moves into high school, she will continue to spread kindness, fairness, and empathy wherever she goes.

Mitcham Value Award (Resilience) - Lindsay Luu

Resilience is defined as “the capacity to recover quickly from difficulties; toughness” (Oxford Dictionary, Third Edition, 2010). Since beginning Cycle 2 six years ago, Lindsay has worked incredibly hard to build this quality. She has developed the strength to bounce back from challenges, persevere through difficulties, and fully participate in the school community. Throughout her time at Mitcham Primary School, Lindsay has consistently sought opportunities to grow, embrace new experiences, and strive to be the best version of herself .Congratulations on receiving this award, Lindsay. You truly embody our school values and are an exceptional role model. It has been an absolute pleasure to witness your journey at Mitcham Primary School, and we wish you every success in the future.

Deakin Shield Awards: Academic - Daniel Lang

Daniel is an intelligent, creative and articulate student who consistently demonstrates exceptional responsibility and a genuine love of learning. He strives for excellence in everything he does, showing persistence, curiosity and a maturity well beyond his years. Daniel embraces challenges, collaborates with enthusiasm and continually seeks opportunities to extend himself, including his participation in the Victorian High Ability Program. Thank you, Daniel, for the leadership and spirit you have brought to Mitcham Primary School. Mullauna College is incredibly lucky to welcome such an outstanding young person into their excel program for 2026.

Deakin Shield Awards: Sporting- Linkhon Pemberton

When you think of Linkhon, it’s impossible not to think of sport. His achievements over the years at MPS would take far too long to list and the impact he’s had on his sport-loving peers is impossible to measure. Whether it’s running countless kilometres at Run Club, asking for technique tips or giving them to others, this young man truly lives and breathes running. He has proudly represented Mitcham at regional level three times and once at state, for both Athletics and Cross Country. Even now, it feels unusual to see him without a soccer ball at his feet because if I had let him bring it, he’d definitely be kicking it during this exact moment. Congratulations, Linkhon, on your incredible team and individual achievements throughout your time at Mitcham Primary School. We can’t wait to see how far your sporting journey takes you.

Deakin Shield Awards: Performing Arts - Jasmine Long

Jasmine is a bundle of joy and enthusiasm who consistently demonstrates all of our school values. Her energy is tireless, and her dedication to the Mitcham Primary School community is truly commendable. She brings a bright spirit and a wonderful sense of fun to every role she takes on, infusing each responsibility with joy. Jasmine was a standout performer in this year’s school production of Shrek. She brought her character, Donkey, to life with personality, humour, and heart. Throughout the year, she approached this role with responsibility, dedication, purpose, and a generous dose of joy.

Congratulations, Jasmine! You are a truly deserving recipient of the Deakin Shield Performing Arts Award.

Thinker, Learner, Leader (Kelly Pikia Award) - Sion Oh

This award is to acknowledge all round excellence in our school. This award is for people who make considered decisions, are life-long learners, have strong leadership qualities and are genuine in their qualities and approach to others. Sion Oh is honoured with this year’s ‘Thinker, Learner, Leader’ award. Sion actively seeks leadership roles and inspires others through his mature attitude. He supports teachers, peers, and younger students, ensuring everyone feels included. His love of learning, pride in his work, and eagerness to take on new challenges stand out. Sion’s courage, joyful presence, and impact on the school community make him a truly deserving recipient.
