VM Dream Jobs sessions

At the start of the year the VCE Vocational Major (VM) students at Swinburne Senior Secondary College made a list of their dream jobs. The alumni program is trying to bring back as many former students who are doing those jobs as possible.

So far this year, the visits have covered:

Cyber security: Zach Frazer-Bowey (class of 2019), cyber resilience analyst with UniSuper

Hairdressing and running your own business: Colour specialist Mark Laird (class of 2017), founder of Mark L Hair

Electrical apprenticeship: Keith Hilliard (class of 2023), apprentice industrial electrician

Disability support work: Honour Hickey (class of 2023), winner of the gold 2024 Australian Support Worker of the Year award at last year's Heart of Health and Disability (HOHAD) Conference.

VM is designed for students who prefer to learn in a real-world environment. As the VM students are not working towards an ATAR, the Dream Job visits focus on alternative pathways that don't require an ATAR.

The Year 11 and 12 VM classes are both involved in these sessions. Non-VM students who are interested in these careers are also welcome to attend.
