Red carpet moment

There was a Swinny connection to the spectacular chainmail dress that US actress Julia Fox wore to the NGV Gala last December. Former Swinny student Annika Cardak (class of 2018) helped make the chainmail for the it.

Annika, who's studying archaeology at Latrobe, had previously done a chainmail-making course. This led to her doing work for Catholic Guilt Clothing, the Australian label responsible for the dress.

When Catholic Guilt Clothing received the commission to make Julia Fox’s dress, they invited Annika to get involved.

The headline-grabbing dress weighed 15kg and took over 700 hours to make, with 8 people working on it. It took 6 people to dress Julia in the gown.

The pic above shows Annika in the mirror on the right, preparing some spare chains as Julia gets ready to go out on the red carpet. You can see the dress’s designer, Ella, in the mirror on the left. Ella also took this photo.
